Mississippi State’s Jarvis Varnado was named SEC Player of the Week after he averaged 15.5 points, 13.0 rebounds and 8.0 blocks per game in wins over Arkansas and Georgia. Varnado recorded his second-career triple-double and just the school’s fourth with 17 points, 12 rebounds and 10 blocks against Arkansas. He answered that performance with his 10th double-double of the year with 14 points and 14 rebounds against Georgia, while all six of his blocked shots came in the final 10 minutes of the game as the Bulldogs overcame a 13-point deficit with under five minutes to play.

Kentucky’s Eric Bledsoe was named SEC Freshman of the Week after he averaged 19 points to go along with 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in helping lead Kentucky to wins at Florida and at Auburn. He scored a career-high and game-high 25 points at Florida to lead the Cats to their first win in Gainesville since 2004. He became the third UK freshman to score 25 in a game this season. It’s the first time Kentucky has had three freshmen score 25 in a game since the 1975 season. The Alabama native also scored 13 points in a win at Auburn over the weekend.
