Georgia Media Day Quotes

SEC Tipoff 2010
Georgia Bulldogs

Men’s Head Coach Mark Fox
On differences between the WAC and the SEC…
"We obviously have a lot more resources in the SEC than in the WAC. The SEC is a terrific league where we all are trying to play at the highest level possible. Everyone is hungry and we are all trying to represent the conference well. I believe that this is one of the premier conferences in the country and that, hopefully, we can send half of our conference to the NCAA Tournament."

On Georgia’s outlook…
"We have inherited a group that needs some more offense and that needs to work on controlling the ball better. But most of all, we have inherited a group of kids that are looking for a fresh start. We are not having to fight the battle to get these players motivated. They are out there working hard every day and we have enjoyed the first week of practice."

On running the triangle offense…
"The offense that we run is an adapted version of the triangle and so far, it’s going well. Usually, you only have a few new players that have to come in and learn the offense, but this year, we have 15 people learning it. That makes it more difficult, but we are taking it slowly and learning it a little at a time."

Albert Jackson, F/C, Sr.
On new head coach Mark Fox…
"Coach Fox is an amazing guy. His personality is unmatched by any coach I have ever had. He brings a lot to the table including his basketball intelligence. He knows a lot of people that know a lot about the game of basketball. He really studies and has a lot of respect for the game. He is teaching us the same respect and how to carry ourselves like first class citizens, on and off the court. He is definitely bringing a winning tradition to us as a team."

On the league…
"To be a complete team you have to be able to play up and down and you have to be able to play half court. Teams that play one way do not end up being successful. We will be playing more up tempo this year than we did last year. We were a little stagnate last year on offense when trying to get the ball moving. This season our offense will be moving up and down, cutting and lots of fast breaks."

Women’s Head Coach Andy Landers
On the team’s outlook…
"We are going to need to mix our seasoned players with our younger players. We have seven new kids coming in to be exact, so how well we do in the season really depends on how well we mix the young and the old."

On how to mix the experienced with the non-experienced players…
"The younger players will really need to model the more experienced ones in every aspect. Our experienced players will need to share their experiences, good and bad, with the less seasoned players and really show them how to elevate their game. The good thing is our freshmen look a lot better than what your typical freshmen usually look like so that is very encouraging."

On the outlook of the Southeastern Conference…
"There is an absence of a great player this season so I’m really anxious to see who emerges. Since there is an absence of this great player then it presents uncertainty in a champion. Honestly, I see about six teams that could emerge on top this season."

Angel Robinson, F, Sr.
On what to expect from the Lady Dogs this season…
"You are going to see a bigger team, better confidence and a veteran team. We drank a bottle of mouthwash to get the bad taste of last season out, so we are coming out big, and we are going to make it far."

On the league…
"The league is tougher this season. We know LSU and the (Tennessee) Lady Vols are going to be really good. They need to get ready when they come to Georgia this year because we are ready. We are looking forward to showing what we have been working on and playing teams of their caliber."
