Cross Country Women's preseason watch list announced

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Southeastern Conference on Friday unveiled its women's cross country preseason watch list. League teams begin their 2014 seasons starting next week and here's a look at some of the top women's performers across the conference, as submitted by each institution.


Katelyn Greenleaf

• Earned all-Region honors as UA's top finisher (13th) at the NCAA South Region

• Keyed the Tide to its highest team finish (3rd) at the South Region meet in 27 years

• Became first UA women's athlete since 2008 to clinch All-SEC honors at the SEC Championships by finishing ninth

• Was UA's top finisher in five of six meets over the course of the 2013 season

• Earned Second-Team all-SEC honors in 2013 with a fifth-place finish

Hilary Stafford

• Was Alabama's top freshman runner during the 2013 season

• Placed 3rd at the Alabama-Samford Dual, helping the Tide to a victory

• Had a pair of top-5 finishes as a freshman in 2013

• Was one of the top prep runners in her native Canada throughout her high school career


Dominique Scott

• 2013 NCAA All-American

• 2013 SEC Runner of the Year

• Two-time NCAA All-Regional (2011, 2013)

• 2013 All-SEC first team

• Finished first at the 2013 SEC Championships with a time of 20:02.81

• Ran a 6k-best time of 19:40.70 to win the 2013 NCAA South Central Regional

• SEC Runner of the Week (Sept. 24, 2013)

Grace Heymsfield

• Two-time NCAA All-Regional (2012, 2013)

• Two-time All-SEC first team (2012, 2013)

• 2010 All-SEC Freshman Team

• Finish third at the 2013 SEC Championships with a time of 20:11.77

• Finished ninth at the 2013 NCAA Regionals with a time of 20:41.60

• Two-time SEC Runner of the Week (Oct. 4 and Oct. 22, 2013)


Veronica Eder

• Had four top-5 finishes last season

• Finished 24th at the South Regional

• Led Auburn to its victory at the Mountain Dew Invite and was named SEC Freshman Runner of the Week for her efforts Rachel Givens

• Placed 28th at the SEC Championships and 40th at the South Regional


Becky Greene

• Enters first competitive cross country season for Florida

• New Zealand native was a two-time champion at the New Zealand National Cross Country Championships (2010 & 2011)

• Participated at the national level before enrolling at Florida

• 2014 SEC Indoor Women's Freshman Runner of the Year, USTFCCCA Indoor All-American (mile & DMR), Indoor and Outdoor SEC ALL-Freshman honoree

Taylor Tubbs

• UF's top returning runner

• As a true freshman, scored third for the Gators and finished 33rd out of 194 competitors at NCAA South Region Championship, running a personal-best 20:59.36 (6k)

• Cut over a minute off her 5k time during her inaugural season with the Orange & Blue


Carly Hamilton

• Top finisher for the Lady Bulldogs at three meets during the 2013 season

• Earned All-Region honors after leading Georgia with a 15th-place finish at the NCAA South Regionals

• Won her first meet of the year at the Furman Invitational

• Managed a 19th-place finish at the Roy Griak Invitational versus a nationally-ranked field

• On the track, she was a First Team All-American indoors in the mile after taking fifth in the finals

Bret McDaniel

• Was the third Lady Bulldog across the finish line (38th overall) at the NCAA South Regionals

• Led Georgia at the SEC Championships with an 18th-place finish at the SEC Championships

• Also scored for her team at the Roy Griak Invitational and the Wisconsin adidas Invitational


Cassidy Hale

• All-SEC Freshman in 2013

• Southeastern Conference All-Freshman Team selection after finishing as the No. 5 first-year runner to cross the finish line, 26th overall in 21:22.42 at the SEC Championships helping UK to a third-place finish, its highest conference meet placement since coming in second at the 2002 meet Amy Hansen

• Competed in seven meets as a freshman including the SEC Championships and NCAA Southeast Regional

• Best 5,000-meter race of the season, 17:58.6, came at the Bluegrass Invitational in Lexington, Ky.

• Best 6k time, 22:21.1, was recorded at the NCAA Southeast Regional Championship


Andria Aguilar

• One of the most consistent performers, competing in all six meets

• The top Lady Tiger finisher in four of six meets

• Competed in the NCAA South Central Regional, posting a 24:15.6 for a 120th place finish

• Competed in SEC Championships for the third consecutive year clocking 23:54.26 and placing 105th

• Clocked 18:25.62 at the McNeese Stampede for a fifth-place finish

• Set a new personal best in the 5k at the Crimson Classic, clocking 18:22.87 for a 51st-place finish

Morgan Schuetz

• Competed in the NCAA South Central Regional, posting a personal-best 23:00.2 for a 85th-place finish

• Ran in the SEC Championships for the second consecutive year, clocking 23:38.12 and placing 102nd

• Finished 13th at the McNeese Stampede with a personal-best 5k time of 19:27.1

Ole Miss

Mary Alex England

• Walked on to the team last year and became an instant contributor as a freshman

• Won the Drake Relays 10,000 meter title and set a school record (34:48.66) in her first ever competitive race at that distance

• Ran the 10,000 meters at the NCAA East Preliminary

Nicole Park

• Earned 8th place at the 2013 NXN Southeast Regional

• Finished 19th at the 2013 VHSL 6A state cross country meet

• 2014 Virginia state runner-up in the indoor 3,200 meters

Mississippi State

Cornelia Griesche

• Earned a new personal best with a time of 20:49.78 in the NCAA Championship 6K

• Placed fifth in the Memphis Twilight 5K with a time of 18:01.85, helping lead her team to place first.

• Was a 2012 World Junior Championships (17th place)

• Finished ninth at the European Junior Championships in 2011

Rhianwedd Price

• Ran a season best of 17:53.90 in the Crimson Classic 5K

• Competed in the SEC Championship 6K (21:55.91)

• Placed 12th in the NCAA Championship 6K (20:33.58)


Kaitlyn Fischer

• Led the Tigers in six of her seven meets as a true freshman

• Was the sole Mizzou athlete to qualify for the NCAA Cross Country Championships

• Finished sixth at the SEC Championships (20:30.40)

• 2013 SEC Freshman of the Year, First Team All-SEC, and All-SEC Freshman Team for cross country

• Was sixth at the NCAA Midwest Regional (20:26.40)

• NCAA Second Team All-American in the 10k (ninth)

• Broke the Mizzou School Record in the 10k at the NCAA Championships (33:12.37)

• Holds the seventh-fastest time in Mizzou history for the indoor 5000m Run (16:51.16)

Courtney Wood

• 2014 NCAA West Preliminary Round qualifier in the 3000m Steeplechase

• Holds the second-fastest time in Mizzou history for the 3000m Steeplechase (10:21.32)

• Also holds the ninth-fastest time in school history for the 5000m Run (16:36.55)

South Carolina

Mary Reiser

• Earned SEC All-Freshman Team honors, placing 33rd at 21:33.77

• Won SEC Freshman Runner of the Week after posting the sixth-fastest 5K in Gamecock history (17:39.0), finishing fifth overall in the Royal XC Challenge

• Was second on the team in six of the seven races in which she competed

• Finished in 29th overall at the NCAA Southeast Regional at 21:21.3

Kayla Lampe

• Redshirted 2013 season due to injury

• Garnered SEC All-Freshman Team honors in 2012 and second-team All-SEC accolades with a 13th-place showing at the SEC Championships (21:02.30)

• Earned All-Southeast Region honors in 2012, finishing eighth with a time of 20:40.43, which is the fastest 6K time in South Carolina history

• Gamecocks' top finisher in all the events she competed in 2012

• Won the Black section of the 2012 NCAA Pre-Nationals at Louisville with a 6K time of 21:03.5


Chelsea Blaase

• All-Region and All-SEC selection

• Placed 10th at both the SEC & South Regional Championships

• Won her first race at the Crimson Classic 5K

• Recorded five top-20 finishes and three top-10 finishes in six meets last season

Alexis Panisse

• All-Region selection

• Tennessee's No. 1 or 2 runner in every meet last season

• Three top-10 finishes last season, including fourth at the Louisville Classic 5K

• Five top-10 finishes in her career

Texas A&M

Hillary Montgomery

• NCAA qualifier from sixth-place finish at South Central region, running 20:27 on 6,000m course and earned all-Region honors as team tied for second place.

• Led A&M to runner-up team finish at SEC Championships, highest conference finish in history of A&M program.

• Placed eighth in 2013 SEC meet to earn all-SEC second team honors after finishing 41st in 2012.

• Also led A&M squad at Greater Louisville Classic and Wisconsin adidas Invitational during season.

Grace Fletcher

• Third finisher on A&M crew at SEC Championships, placing 19th as Aggies finished second to record highest team finish in a conference meet.

• Earned all-Region honors in placing 25th at South Central region, running 21:22.1 on the 6,000m course as she was third finisher for Aggies, who tied for second in team scoring.

• Prior to SEC and region meet, finished fourth among A&M squad at Greater Louisville Classic and Wisconsin adidas Invitational.


Rebecca Chandler

• Finished 20th at the SEC Championship in a time of 21:11.70 last season

• Ran a personal-best 21:08 over the 6K course at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational as the Commodores third finisher

• 2014 Spring Academic Honor Roll & 2013 SEC Academic Honor Roll

• 2011 SEC All-Freshman team

• Top times -- 4K - 14:31.3; 5K - 17:36.28; 6K - 21:08.

Lilly Williams

• Posted a personal record in the 6K at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational, running 21:49

• Ran a 22:12.56 at the SEC Championship to finish 63rd

• 2014 Spring Academic Honor Roll

• 2012-2013 SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll

• Top times -- 5K - 17:25.73; 6K - 21:49.
