BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Mississippi State's Jay Hughes is the Southeastern Conference Football Community Service Team Player of the Week.
A veteran, smart safety, Hughes makes his return from injury for the 2014 Mississippi State football season. Hughes will content for the starting free safety spot after missing the final 12 games of the 2013 season due to an Achilles injury. For his career, he has played in 27 games with four starts. He owns 44 tackles with 3.0 hits for lost yardage and four pass breakups.
During his time at Mississippi State, Hughes has been a prominent member of the Starkville community. He has continually given his time and effort to those around him, starting with the Breakfast of Champions with local elementary school children.
Most recently, Hughes donated time to Rising Sun Children's Camp, a camp for children ages six to 16 who are undergoing treatment for cancer or are in remission. The camp is held in June in Columbus, Miss.
