KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- #23 BYU posted a 1-0 victory in Tennessee's home opener at Regal Soccer Stadium on Friday night before 1,691 fans. The Cougars secured their first win of the season, standing at 1-0-2. Tennessee falls to 1-2-0.
Elena Madeiros scored the game's lone goal in the 17th minute off a pass from Niki Fernandes. She finished off a feed moving from the right side and scoring inside the left post.
BYU outshot Tennessee, 13-6. Cougars keepers Katherine Snyder (2 saves) and Hannah Clark shared the shutout. Jamie Simmons made two saves for Tennessee.
The Orange & White return to action next Friday night at Western Kentucky at 7 p.m. The next home match comes on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 6:30 p.m.
