SEC sweeps NCEA Rider of the Month awards

WACO, Texas - The National Collegiate Equestrian Association announced its March Riders of the Month on Wednesday.

Auburn took home all but one award, as Kaci Fisher from Texas A&M claimed the Shorty's Horsemanship Rider of the Month. Caitlin Boyle earned the EquiFit Equitation Over Fences Rider of the Month, while Hayley Iannotti received the EquiFit Equitation on the Flat Rider of the Month. Rounding out the Tigers' trio of award winners was Betsy Brown snagging Shorty's Reining Rider of the Month.

EquiFit Equitation Over Fences Rider of the Month: Caitlin Boyle, Auburn

  • Went undefeated in the month of March to improve to 10-4-0 in the event this year
  • Was awarded three MOP honors out of four matches this month
  • Named SEC Fences Rider of the Month in March
  • Helped Auburn pick up a pair of big wins on the road to close out the regular season, defeating then-No. 1 Baylor and then-No. 2 Texas A&M at the beginning of the month
  • Against the Bears, Boyle scored a season-best 90 points in her win, defeating her opponent by 12 points
  • Boyle followed with 87 points in her victory the following day, besting her opponent by 15 points
  • Helped Auburn advance to the SEC title match, defeating her Aggie opponent in the SEC semifinal, 165-152
  • In the SEC Championship versus Georgia, she outscored her opponent by 100 points and was awarded the MOP for that meet, and her 177 points was the third highest fences score in SEC Championship match history

EquiFit Equitation on the Flat Rider of the Month: Hayley Iannotti, Auburn

  • Improved to 10-1 on the season in the event by going undefeated in the month of March
  • Edged her opponent at then-No. 1 Baylor, winning 72-71 and helping the Tigers beat the top-ranked team on the road
  • Against then-No. 2 Texas A&M, Iannotti scored 83 points in her win to help the Tigers go 4-1 in the event against the Aggies
  • Outscored both her opponents at the SEC Championship by double digits to pick up wins each day
  • Bested her Aggie opponent in the SEC semifinals with 156 points and winning by 18 points
  • Margin of victory versus Georgia in the SEC Championship match was 14 points as she scored 160 in her win Iannotti's 10 victories in flat leads the team and her winning percentage (.909) in the event is an Auburn best for 2016-17

Shorty's Horsemanship Rider of the Month: Kaci Fisher, Texas A&M

  • Earned her team-best fifth MOP
  • Holds a team-high 11 wins
  • Averaged a score of 75 in March

Shorty's Reining Rider of the Month: Betsy Brown, Auburn

  • Went undefeated in the month of March to improve to 7-5-0 on the year, and her seven victories is second-best on the team
  • Had a big win at then-No. 1 Baylor, defeating her opponent by 10 points, 67.5-57.5
  • Brown followed with a great ride at then-No. 2 Texas A&M, earning 70 points to edge her opponent's 69.5
  • She followed with outstanding scores at the SEC Championship, winning both her matches with a 143.5
  • Bested her Aggie opponent in the SEC semifinals by 1.5 points, earning a 72 and a 71.5 from the judges
  • Followed with another 72 and 71.5 in her win over Georgia in the team's SEC Championship match, edging her Bulldog opponent by 0.5
