Florida tabbed SEC Volleyball preseason favorite

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Florida, one of the 2016 SEC Co-Champions, is the preseason favorite to win the 2017 Southeastern Conference volleyball title, according to the SEC Preseason Coaches' Poll.

The Gators, who finished 27-4 overall and 16-2 in the SEC last season, received seven of the 13 first-place votes in the preseason poll. Kentucky garnered six first-place votes after finishing with an overall record of 23-8 and owning a 15-3 mark in league play last season.

The Wildcats finished a close second in the preseason poll with 138 points, while Missouri, the reigning SEC Co-Champion with Florida, took third place with 121 points. Texas A&M followed in fourth place with 110 points, while Auburn took fifth with 96 points. Tennessee received 79 points to finish sixth, followed by South Carolina (73 points) in seventh, Arkansas (70) in eighth, and LSU (56) in ninth. Alabama (48) took 10th place, followed by Georgia (42), Ole Miss (28) and Mississippi State (14) to round out the poll.

Ten student-athletes were selected to the 2017 Preseason Volleyball All-SEC Team. The squad includes: Pilar Victoria from Arkansas; Rhamat Alhassan and Carli Snyder from Florida; Kaz Brown, Ashley Dusek and Leah Edmond from Kentucky; Melanie Crow and Alyssa Munlyn from Missouri, Mikayla Shields from South Carolina; and Kaitlyn Blake from Texas A&M.

The 2017 SEC volleyball season will begin on Friday, August 25, and conference play is set to start on Wednesday, September 20.
