Nashville, Tenn. -- The Commodores opened the season with a convincing 73-54 victory over Austin Peay Friday night in Memorial Gymnasium.
Bryce Drew's Commodores used a 20-9 stretch over the last eight minutes of the first half to enter halftime with a commanding 41-28 advantage.
The 1-0 Commodores were led by senior forward Jeff Roberson, senior guard Riley LaChance and sophomore forward Clevon Brown with 13 points each. It marked a career high for Brown. Roberson also added a team-high 10 rebounds.
The Commodores' first basket of the game, a jumper from the right wing by senior forward Jeff Roberson, marked the team's 1,000th consecutive game with a three-pointer. Vanderbilt is one of only three NCAA teams to register a three in every game since the inception of the three-point line in 1985.
Vanderbilt's top returning scorer, senior guard Matthew Fisher-Davis, missed the game with an ankle injury.
