Player of the Week: Teaira McCowan, Mississippi State
McCowan was solid in the middle as the Bulldogs defeated Georgia State and in-state foe Southern Miss to move to 3-0 on the season. McCowan notched 19 points against Georgia State before capping the week with 11th-career double-double (17 points, 10 rebounds) against Southern Miss. She was efficient with her opportunities, knocking down 78.9 percent of her field goal attempts. She was an impressive 9 of 10 against GSU before capping the week hitting 66.7 percent against USM. McCowan was also a defensive stopper, swatting 5 shots in the two games. She blocked 3 shots against Southern Miss, moving her past former MSU great LaToya Thomas for fourth place in MSU career blocks history. She averaged 18.0 ppg, 7.5 rpg, and 2.5 bpg on the week.
Freshman of the Week: Unique Thompson, Auburn
Thompson recorded first career double-double in her third collegiate game with 16 points and 14 rebounds in win over Louisiana Tech. She also had 6 blocks vs. LA Tech, the most by an Auburn player since 2011. She had her double-double by halftime with 10 points and 10 rebounds, the first Auburn player to accomplish that feat since DeWanna Bonner in 2009. Thompson is averaging a double-double through her first three games (12.0 points, 12.3 rebounds) and is the SEC's leading rebounder among freshmen so far this season. She averaged 13.5 ppg, 10.5 rpg, 0.5 apg and 3.5 bpg on the week.
