IRVING, Texas -- The College Football Playoff (CFP) Foundation has partnered with the Southeastern Conference (SEC) to honor teachers through the CFP Foundation's Extra Yard for Teachers initiative.
The SEC worked with its 14 institutions to identify a student-athlete who has had a teacher that greatly impacted his or her life. Each of the teachers was honored through the student-athlete's testimonial featured on SEC Nation, the SEC Network's traveling pregame show, throughout the regular season. The student-athlete video tributes were also featured weekly on social media.
In addition, each teacher's school received a $10,000 grant from the CFP Foundation and SEC to use towards the purchase of classroom supplies and materials. Each of the teachers are from the 11-state footprint of the SEC.

Furthermore, in connection with the 2017 SEC Football Championship on December 2 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, the CFP Foundation and SEC will be making a $10,000 donation to Atlanta Public Schools. The full announcement will take place on the SEC Network's pregame show SEC Now, and the SEC will use a public address announcement along with video assets during the championship game to describe the positive impact this partnership has made throughout the regular football season.
"The Southeastern Conference has been an extraordinary partner in our efforts to elevate the teaching profession," said CFP Foundation Executive Director Britton Banowsky. "The positive influence that teachers have on their students is amazing, and it was wonderful to see the conference and the SEC Network bring these stories to life each week. We are grateful for their support and look forward to sharing more of these great stories in the future."
"Education is a pillar of the SEC's community outreach efforts. With the support of the College Football Playoff Foundation, the SEC is able to bring awareness to the importance of education through the Extra Yard for Teachers program," said SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey. "By recognizing 14 outstanding teachers who have had a significant impact in the lives of our student-athletes, and through the grant provided by the College Football Playoff Foundation, the SEC continues to cultivate the important work being done in classrooms across our region by providing funding for the purchase of school supplies and materials to the schools from which those teachers are being recognized."
