Leah Lawrence of Alabama and Anna Zwiebel of LSU are among the 21 student-athletes named to the 2017 Academic All-America® Division I Volleyball Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Both Lawrence and Zwiebel were named to the Third Team.
Lawrence is currently pursuing her master's degree in finance with a 4.00 grade point average after earning her undergraduate degree in just three years in the same field with a 3.99 GPA. On the court, she started all 32 matches for the Crimson Tide this season, leading the team with 279 kills, a .313 hitting percentage and 123 blocks. In the Nov. 12 match vs. Tennessee, Lawrence broke Alabama's career blocks record that had stood for 15 years, ultimately finishing her four-year career with 449. She also ranks second in career block assists (358) and is third in solo blocks (91) and matches played (129).
Zwiebel, who has a GPA of 4.09 in kinesiology, directed the offense for the LSU volleyball squad this season, leading the team in assists with 1,069. She averaged 9.72 digs per set which ranks sixth in the SEC. Zwiebel finished the season with 10 double-doubles and registered a career-high of 65 assists in the Tiger's five-set win over High Point in non-conference action. In 11 matches this season, she finished with 10 or more digs and finished with a season-high of 14 digs on three occasions. On the year, Zwiebel led the team in aces with 18 to go along with 43 blocks and 62 kills on 151 attempts.
