Eight SEC women's teams enter postseason play

Seven SEC women's basketball teams earned bids to the 2018 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship and one to the 2018 Postseason WNIT as brackets were announced Monday night.

Mississippi State earned a No. 1 seed for the first time in the 36-year history of the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship. It's the 10th appearance for the Bulldogs. They will host Nicholls State on Saturday at 5 pm CT in their first round game in the Kansas City Region.

A No. 2 seed, defending national champion South Carolina will host NC A&T on Friday at 7:30 pm ET in the first round of the Albany Region. Georgia, a No. 4 seed, is also in the Albany Region and will host Mercer on Saturday at 1:30 pm ET.

The Lexington Region includes No. 3 seed Tennessee and No. 5 seed Missouri. The Lady Vols will host Liberty in the first round on Friday at 2:30 pm ET, while Missouri will travel to Palo Alto for a Saturday match up with Florida Gulf Coast at 3:30 pm ET.

No. 4 seed Texas A&M will host Drake on Friday at 2:30 pm ET and #6 LSU will travel to Columbus, Ohio to meet Central Michigan on Saturday at 10 am CT as the two SEC teams in the Spokane Region.

In WNIT action, Alabama has earned their third consecutive and eighth overall bid. The official WNIT bracket, which will include matchups and dates, will be announced later tonight, approximately 11:30 p.m. ET. Game times will be announced by officials on Tuesday, March 13.

ALBANY REGION

  • Georgia clinches a No. 4 seed and will play No. 13 seed Mercer on Saturday at 1:30 pm ET
  • South Carolina is a No. 2 seed and will host NC A&T on Friday at 7:30 pm ET

LEXINGTON REGION

  • Missouri gets a No. 5 seed and will travel to Palo Alto for a Saturday match up with Florida Gulf Coast at 3:30 pm ET
  • Tennessee earns a No. 3 seed and will host Liberty in the first round on Friday at 2:30 pm ET

KANSAS CITY REGION

  • Mississippi State claims a No. 1 seed and will host Nicholls State on Saturday at 5 pm CT

SPOKANE REGION

  • Texas A&M has a No. 4 seed and will host Drake on Friday at 2:30 pm ET
  • LSU earns a No. 6 seed and will travel to Columbus, Ohio to meet Central Michigan on Saturday at 10 am CT
