2018 SEC Men's Golf awards announced

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama --The Southeastern Conference on Thursday announced its annual Men's Golf Awards, which were voted on by the league's 14 head coaches.

The 2018 All-SEC teams and a complete list of awards are listed below.

NCAA Men's Regionals will be held May 14-16.

Alex Green, Alabama

  • Currently serves as the men's golf representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
  • Led all Crimson Tide men's golfers in total hours served in the community.
  • Involved in the Special Olympics where he has volunteered countless hours ... spent time with local children in elementary and middle school ... also included in his community service projects were volunteering his time at the Halloween Extravaganza and working with the local Child Abuse Prevention Services.

Alvaro Ortiz, Arkansas

  • As a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), Ortiz has helped organize various community service projects throughout the department. He is majoring in international business and holds a 3.13 cumulative grade point average.

Ben Schlottman, Auburn

  • Elementary School - reads to the children Habitat for Humanity Trick or Treat Downtown over Halloween Academic
  • ALL- SEC Honor Roll Dean's List

Blake Dyer, Florida

  • Participated in Climb for Cancer which helps children whom have fought or are fighting cancer and gives them the opportunity to participate in a sports clinic. During the event, he helped facilitated games for youth and helped walk them around to different stations.

Matthew Beringer, Georgia

  • 2017 SEC Community Service Team Ramsey Scholarship for Academic and Athletic Excellence UGA's Leadership Academy
  • 2017 UGA Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year SEC and UGA academic honor rolls
  • Member of the CURE UGA Executive Board (Awareness Director)

Cooper Musselman, Kentucky

  • Participated in community outreach events such as the God's Pantry Backpack program where student-athletes pack lunches, deliver them to local schools and spend time with the elementary-aged kids. He's also contributed to the UK Hospital Blanket project where athletes make blankets and then deliver them to children in the hospital during the Holiday months. He's also been a part of making dinner for residents at the Ronald McDonald House and worked with Lighthouse ministries. Musselman has also volunteered at various golf clinics.

Taylor Grant, Mississippi State

  • Major in Business Administration... 2x President's Scholar... 4x Dean's Scholar... 4x Bulldog Honor Roll Srixon/Cleveland GCAA All-American Scholar following 2016-17 season... 2016 SEC Academic Honor Roll... 3.69 GPA Played in all 11 of MSU's team events in 2017-18 season... Collected three-straight Top 10 finishes in the month of March... Shot a career-best 65 in final round of Bighorn Invitational... 71.8 stroke average... Helped MSU to four-straight Top 5 finishes to close regular season. Volunteered with Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign, Sprint with Super Gabe 5K, FCA, United We Feed, TK Martin Super Fun Run and Read and Play, Breakfast of Champions.

Hayden Buckley, Missouri

  • Bryon Nelson Award Finalist, which honors the complete student athlete that embodies integrity and high character. Buckley works with the Tiger Leadership Institute, which seeks to improve the experience of Mizzou student athletes. He is a co-chairman of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. He is passionate about the local community and loves helping young golfers with lessons and at camps. Hayden goes out of his way to seek out new MizzouMade initiatives within the athletic department.

Ben Dietrich, South Carolina

  • Three-time SEC Community Service member, led team with 105 service hours during the 2017-18 academic year. He went on a mission trip to Wales and hosted a golf tournament that raised $26,000 for charity and the group he went with. Along with the women's team, Dietrich helped build and assemble 250 bikes at WoodCreek Country Club as a part of the Toys for Tots program. The Bulffton, S.C., native also volunteered at a charity dodgeball tournament and with yard cleanup efforts with a local church. Dietirch has been on the SEC Academic Honor Roll every semester at South Carolina since stepping on campus as a freshman in 2013.

Nolan Ray, Tennessee

  • Current member of the University of Tennessee Student Athletic Advisory Council. Past member of the VOLeaders Academy, taking part in a service trip to Vietnam with fellow UT students last summer. Has logged more than 75 hours of community service during the current school year and last summer. Joined his UT golf teammates in participating annually in the First Tee of Greater Knoxville, introducing the game of golf and its inherent values to young people. Participated in the UT Athletics Department's annual Voloween event, welcoming youth to campus for a fun evening of trick-or-treating and games. Took part in the UT Athletics Department's annual Holiday Community Meal, serving food to Knoxville's homeless population at Smokey's Grill in the department's Anderson Training Center. Joined student-athletes in representing the UT Athletics Department and tossing candy to spectators at the 2018 Tennessee Homecoming Parade. Accounting major with a 3.84 GPA...Member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll each season and a Vol Scholar.

Brandon Smith, Texas A&M

  • SAAC Rep Led Golf Team at Big Event (Largest Community Service project in US) Led Golf Team at Aggies Can (Canned Food Drive and Fundraiser by student athletes for less fortunate in B/CS)

Will Gordon, Vanderbilt

  • Won the 2017 Tom Cousins Award at the East Lake Cup, given to a male collegiate golfer who excels in academics, engages in their community and overcomes adversity. Volunteers regularly at Eakin Elementary school in Nashville tutoring students in reading. Helped collect water for Houston in the fall of 2017 at a Vanderbilt Athletics Water Drive. He also volunteered his time at the athletic department's holiday party, field day, and trick or treat parties that benefit a local elementary school.
