2018 SEC Cross Country awards announced

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Southeastern Conference announced its 2018 cross country awards on Wednesday as voted on by the league's head coaches.

The men's recipients include Arkansas' Gilbert Boit (Runner of the Year), Ole Miss' Cade Bethmann (Freshman Runner of the Year), and Ole Miss' Ryan Vanhoy (Coach of the Year).

The women's recipients include Florida's Jessica Pascoe (Runner of the Year), Arkansas' Katrina Robinson (Freshman Runner of the Year), and Arkansas' Lance Harter (Coach of the Year).

It was previously announced that Texas A&M's Jon Bishop was voted the Men's Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and Arkansas' Taylor Werner was voted the Women's Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Boit was named the SEC Men's Runner of the Year after he took home the SEC men's cross country individual title. He clocked an 8K time of 22:20.13 at Indian Pines Golf Course in Auburn, Ala.

Pascoe was chosen as the SEC Female Runner of the Year after winning the SEC individual title. She finished the 6K race in 18:54.98.

Bethmann, the Men's Freshman Runner of the Year, was the first freshman to complete the race by finishing in sixth place on the 8K course with a time of 23:05.00, earning him a spot on the All-SEC First Team and the All-Freshman Team.

Robinson was named the Women's Freshman of the Year after finishing as the top female freshman and second overall at the SEC Championships with a time of 19:00.88. For her efforts, she also earned spots on the All-SEC First Team and All-Freshman Team.

Bishop, a junior from College Station, Texas, has a 4.0 grade point average in applied mathematics. He has been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll and was honored with the Classroom Excellence Award for outstanding work in advanced calculus.

Werner, a junior from Ste. Genevieve, Mo., holds a 4.0 grade point average in kinesiology: exercise science. She is a member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll.

Vanhoy garnered his first SEC Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year award after leading the Rebels to their first SEC Championship in program history.

Harter earned his 19th all-time SEC Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year honor and his sixth consecutive such accolade after leading the Razorbacks to their sixth consecutive league crown and their league-leading 19th all-time.
