SEC Player of the Week - Arkansas forward Daniel Gafford, a 6-foot-11, 233-pound sophomore from El Dorado, Ark., averaged 19.5 points, eight rebounds and 3.5 blocks in wins over UC Davis and Indiana. He scored a career-high 27 in the win over Indiana and he tied his career high with 12 rebounds. In the second half against the Hoosiers, was 9-of-10 from the field and scored 18 points while the rest of the team was just 5-of-23 and scored just 16. On three occasions, Indiana took a one-point lead in the second half and all three times, Gafford answered with a basket to put the Razorbacks back up.
SEC Freshman of the Week - South Carolina guard A.J. Lawson, a 6-foot-6, 172-pound freshman from Toronto, Canada, averaged 15.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists against Norfolk State, Providence and George Washington last week, including a 19-point, nine rebound, five assist effort in Carolina's win over GW. He began the week tying for game-high honors with 18 points while dishing out a season-high eight assists against Norfolk State, before posting double-figures in both games at the Mohegan Sun Arena.
