Week 14: Women's Basketball Players of the Week

Player of the Week: Missouri's Sophie Cunningham had a monster week as she averaged 24.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game while leading the Tigers to victory over No. 18/22 Texas A&M on Thursday and Vanderbilt on Sunday. She was highly efficient shooting the basketball on the week, as she shot 55.6 percent from the field (15-for-27), 50.0 percent from the three (9-for-18) and 90.9 percent from the three-point line (10-for-11). Cunningham helped lead Mizzou to a thrilling overtime victory over No. 18 Texas A&M on Thursday, as she recorded her 12th career double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds. She matched a career-high with 12 rebounds and set a career high with 44 minutes in the game. Cunningham accounted for six of Mizzou's nine total points in overtime, and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line in the extra period. In the win over Vanderbilt on Sunday, as she scored 27 points and grabbed eight rebounds. It marked the 11th time this season and the 44th time in her career Cunningham has reached 20 points. Mizzou is now 10-1 in games this season where Cunningham scores 20+ points. Cunningham set a new season-high and matched a career-high with seven three-pointers made in the game, including threes of Mizzou's first 12 points. Cunningham became the second Tiger to ever make seven threes in an SEC game, as she joins Morgan Eye, who made 11 against Auburn on Jan. 6, 2013.

Freshman of the Week: Kentucky's Rhyne Howard started the week with 19 points at Auburn, hitting five 3-pointers with six assists, four rebounds and three steals. She finished the week with a game-high 23 points at Alabama with three rebounds, three steals and hit four 3s. She has hit four of more 3s in four SEC games this season taking her season total to 60, which is the most 3s by a freshman in a single season in program history. Her strong performances led Kentucky to its third straight win in league play, which is the longest SEC winning streak of the season for UK. Her six assists against Vanderbilt were the second most in a league game for Howard this season. She has scored 20 or more points in three league games and eight games this season and has scored 10 or more points in five straight games. Howard is now tied with Sophie Cunningham for the most SEC Freshman of the Week honors in a single season with six.
