Wednesday, January 2, 2002

Vanessa Hayden, Florida
Sophomore * Center * Orlando, Fla.

  • One week after breaking UF's 22-year old school record for blocks in a game, Hayden reset the record by swatting 10 against Kent State in the championship game of the State Farm Classic.
  • In that victory, Hayden also recorded only the second triple-double in school history, scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds to go along with the 10 blocks.
  • Hayden was named MVP of the State Farm Classic after posting two-game averages of 17.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 8.0 blocks and 2.5 assists.
  • During UF's win over Duquesne, she set UF's record for blocks by a sophomore in a season, passing the mark of 50 held by Keturah Bell during the 1984 season.
  • Hayden recorded her SEC-leading ninth double-double of the year.
