Athens, Ga. -- Former Georgia Lady Bulldogs La'Keshia Frett and Katrina McClain were named to USA Today's first-team all-time girls (high school) basketball team, announced in the publication's Wednesday edition.

The newspaper celebrated its 20th year of naming an All-USA girls basketball team by reviewing its former honorees. Of the 100 total first-team honorees over the past two decades, Frett and McClain were among the five players named to the first-team all-time unit along with Lisa Leslie (Southern Cal), Dawn Staley (Virginia) and Suzie McConnell (Penn State).

The team was chosen by USA Today's Christopher Lawlor after consulting with writers and high school girls basketball analysts. Players were selected primarily for their play while in high school, but college and pro performances also were considered.

"Most of all, I'm happy for them, and I'm happy for their high school coaches," Andy Landers said. "Both La'Keshia and Katrina certainly are deserving of the honor. What did they for Georgia -- two NCAA runner-up finishes, three Final Fours, four SEC Championships -- that speaks for itself. I was proud of them when they were here, and I'm proud of everything they've done since they've graduated."

Frett, who was the 1994 USA Today National Prep Player of the Year for Pheobus High School in Hampton, Va., went on to become a two-time All-American and four-time All-SEC selection for Georgia during her collegiate playing career from 1994-97. Among the Lady Bulldogs' career statistical leaders, Frett currently ranks No. 6 in scoring (1,850 points), No. 7 in career rebounds (842), No. 7 in career blocks (85) and No. 10 in career assists (315). Frett helped UGA to a cumulative 98-27 record while in Athens, which included an NCAA runner-up finish in 1996, a Final Four appearance in 1995 and SEC Championships in 1996 and 1997. She is currently playing in the WNBA with the Sacramento Monarchs.

McClain was named to USA Today's first-ever All-USA team in 1983 as a senior at St. Andrews High School in Charleston, S.C., before a standout career at Georgia and on the international scene. McClain was the 1987 National Player of the Year and a two-time All-American for the Lady Bulldogs. She led Georgia to a 116-15 record between 1983-87, highlighted by an NCAA runner-up finish in 1985 and SEC Championships in 1984 and 1986. McClain currently ranks No. 2 on Georgia's career scoring ledger (2,195 points), as well as No. 2 in rebounds (1,193), No. 1 in free throws attempted (616) and made (449), and No. 2 in blocked shots (290). McClain is one of only two women to represent the U.S. in basketball at three Olympic games, winning Gold Medals in 1988 and 1996 and a Bronze in 1992.
