Mississippi St. 76, No. 25 Auburn 57

_ LaToya Thomas scored 31 points _ including 23 in the second half _ and had 13 rebounds as Mississippi State beat No. 25 Auburn 76-57 Sunday.

Mississippi State (16-6, 7-2 Southeastern) shot 42.9 percent while holding Auburn (14-8, 2-7) to just 32.8 percent. The Lady Bulldogs outrebounded the Tigers 42-38.

Natasha Brackett scored a career-high 18 points to lead Auburn.

Mississippi State went on runs of 10-2 and 13-2 in the second half, stretching its lead to 72-50. The Lady Bulldogs shot 51.6 percent in the second half.

The Lady Bulldogs started the second half by stretching the lead to 37-31. But Auburn's Carol Smith hit a 3-point shot to bring the Tigers within three.

Mississippi State ended the first half with a 27-23 lead after Auburn went ahead briefly, 16-15.

Jennifer Fambrough had 14 points and nine rebounds for Mississippi State. Tan White added 13 points, including three 3-point shots.

Kerdue Arbet added 12 points, and Lakeisha Johnson had 11 rebounds for Auburn.


Arkansas 72, Alabama 70

_ India Lewis scored 29 points, including seven 3-point shots, and Kiesha Beard had 11 rebounds as Arkansas held on for a 72-70 win over Alabama on Sunday.

With 34 seconds remaining, the score was 71-68 Arkansas (13-8, 4-5 Southeastern Conference). Shondra Johnson then scored a layup to bring Alabama (13-8, 3-5) to within a point.

But Dana Cherry scored a free throw after being fouled by Alabama's Beth Vice with five seconds left to seal the win.

Johnson led Alabama with 21 points, including 12 of 16 from the free-throw line. Vice added 11 points and had 13 rebounds. Shun Hunter added 12 points.

Alabama outshot the Razorbacks 41.8 percent to 36.2 percent.

Shameka Christon added 16 points for Arkansas.

Arkansas led 38-34 at halftime.


South Carolina 69, Florida 59

_ Jocelyn Penn scored seven of her game-high 29 points during a pivotal 12-point run Sunday as No. 11 South Carolina stopped a 12-game losing streak to No. 12 Florida, 69-59.

Trailing 45-44, South Carolina (18-3, 6-2 Southeastern Conference) went ahead for good on Penn's shot in the lane with 7:37 left. Penetrating to the basket with ease, Penn scored the next five points before Shaun Gortman followed with five points of her own to give the Gamecocks a 56-45 advantage with 3:55 left.

Aided by missed free throws, Florida (15-7, 5-4) closed within six points a couple of times but got no closer. Tamia Williams' wild 3-point attempt banked off the glass well left of the rim in the final minute, ending the Lady Gators' last chance to get within 3.

Gortman had 13 points, and Cristina Ciocan handed out 11 assists.

Brandi McCain led Florida with 14 points. South Carolina limited center Vanessa Hayden to 12 points, her SEC low for the year, and held Monique Cardenas to 2-for-13 shooting.

The Gamecocks rarely had come close to Florida since winning in February 1992, losing 11 of the next 12 games by double digits. Earlier this season, South Carolina won for the first time at Georgia Tech and Mississippi State.

Both teams were sloppy in the first half, committing 12 turnovers apiece as Florida took a 31-29 advantage into the break.


Georgia 76, Kentucky 50

_ Kara Braxton had 24 points and 10 rebounds, and No. 19 Georgia scored 35 points off 30 turnovers to beat Kentucky 76-50 Sunday.

Jessica Pierce scored 12 points, and Ebony Felder had 10 points, 10 rebounds and four steals for the Lady Bulldogs (15-6, 4-5 Southeastern Conference), who snapped a two-game losing streak.

Sara Potts scored 15 points, the only player in double figures for Kentucky (8-13, 1-8).

Georgia started the game with a 9-0 run and never trailed, building a 39-20 lead by halftime.

Potts scored inside and sank Kentucky's first 3-pointer of the game during a 7-0 run early in the second half. But Christi Thomas hit a free throw, and Pierce scored on a layup to trigger a 9-0 Georgia spurt.

The Wildcats got no closer than 23 the rest of the way.

Georgia outrebounded Kentucky 43-30, and outscored the Wildcats 36-18 in the paint.

The Wildcats shot just 16-of-50 from the floor (32 percent) and 3-of-11 from 3-point range (27 percent).


LSU 81, Mississippi 70

_ Aiysha Smith scored 23 points and had nine rebounds and Doneeka Hodges scored 14 and had 10 rebounds as LSU beat Mississippi 81-70 Sunday.

LSU (12-7, 5-3 Southeastern Conference) led 37-36 at halftime, as the Tigers shot 46 percent from the field and Ole Miss (10-12, 2-7) shot 42 percent. The Lady Rebels cooled off in the second half, shooting 39 percent while LSU shot 57 percent.

Ke-Ke Tardy had 19 points and Roneeka Hodges scored 13 for LSU.

Ally Kelly scored 19 points for the Lady Rebels and Carlette Brown scored 16 and had five assists.
