Roundup: No. 23 USC Overwhelms Coastal Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Jocelyn Penn scored 29 points and No. 23 South Carolina had a 44-4 run in a 94-34 victory over Coastal Carolina on Tuesday night.

The Lady Gamecocks improved to 9-1, their best start since the 1988-89 team also opened 9-1. South Carolina led 40-17 at halftime and scored the first 22 points of the second half.

Penn was 6-of-8 from the field in the first half and finished 12-of-15. Shaunzinski Gortman added 18 points, 10 rebounds and seven steals.

Nikki Reddick had 19 points for Coastal Carolina, which shot 12-of-49 and committed 31 turnovers.

No. 20 Florida 81, Elon College 53

Monique Cardenas had 17 points and 11 rebounds Tuesday to lift No. 20 Florida over Elon 81-53.

Vanessa Hayden overcame foul trouble to finish with 15 points for the Gators (7-3). Courtney Cooper had 14 points and nine rebounds.

Holly Andrews scored 13 points to lead Elon (3-6).

Cardenas had three baskets during a 16-2 run that helped the Gators to a 38-21 lead at halftime.

Brandi McCain had 12 points and 11 assists for the Gators, who played at home for the first time in 32 days.

Alabama 72, Jacksonville State 53
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (AP) --
Monique Bivins scored 18 points and got six rebounds as Alabama won over Jacksonville State 72-53 on Tuesday night.

Alabama (6-3) had two other players in double-figures -- Sparkle Smith and Shondra Johnson with 15 each -- in its victory against Jacksonville State (1-8).

The Crimson Tide went up early, building to a 34-26 halftime lead. The lead grew in the second half, including 13-of-20 made free throws.

Latisha Mathis led Jacksonville State's scoring with 11 points.

Jacksonville State made 44 percent from the field compared to Alabama's 45 percent, but the Crimson Tide got more opportunities by coming down with 36 rebounds.

Jacksonville State grabbed 29 rebounds.

No. 24 LSU 88, Mercer 31
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) --
Doneka Hodges scored 18 points to lead No. 24 LSU to an 88-31 victory over Mercer on Tuesday night.

Ke-Ke Tardy and Aiysha Smith each added 14 points for LSU (5-3). Scholanda Dorrell scored 12 points, and reserves Roneeka Hodges and Patty Hanten each finished with 11.

LSU, which forced 30 turnovers and had 18 steals, led 48-17 at halftime.

April Dyer scored 14 points for Mercer (4-4), which was outscored 40-14 in the second half.
