ATLANTA (AP) - Reserve Gwen Jackson had 20 points and 10 rebounds as No. 2 Tennessee overpowered No. 9 Duke in the second half for an 89-68 victory Thursday in the ACC/SEC Shootout.

Kara Lawson added 19 points for the Lady Vols (9-0).

Tennessee led by nine at halftime, but pulled away by holding the Blue Devils (9-3) to two points in an 8-minute span of the second half. Duke, averaging 87 points entering the game, shot just 34 percent.

It was their first meeting since the Blue Devils' upset victory in the 1999 NCAA tournament that ended the Lady Vols' three-year national championship run.

Alana Beard led Duke with 18 points.

It was the first game of a doubleheader held in conjunction with the Peach Bowl on Monday. Tenth-ranked Georgia played Georgia Tech later Thursday.

Tennessee never trailed, and the score was tied just once. The Blue Devils got to 51-44 early in the second half before going cold. The Lady Vols scored 19 straight points, and after Duke closed within 15, Tennessee went on an 18-5 run to put it away.

The lead reached 82-54 in the final minutes before a meaningless spurt by the Blue Devils.

Duke's troubles were personified by reserve Monique Currie, who was averaging 14.5 points. She scored just seven points, shooting 2-for-14. She struggled mightily for most of the game, often throwing up wild shots while heavily guarded.

Sheana Mosch and Iciss Tillis scored 14 points apiece for the Blue Devils.

Michelle Snow had 12 points for the Lady Vols, and Shyra Ely added 11.

ATLANTA (AP) - Kara Braxton had 22 points and 11 rebounds as No. 10 Georgia beat Georgia Tech for the 24th straight time, rallying for a 69-52 victory Thursday in the ACC/SEC Shootout.

Georgia (9-0) trailed once in the first half and fell behind by five early in the second half before rallying. Georgia Tech (6-4) didn't score for the next five minutes, and the Bulldogs took control with 10 points in that span.

Niesha Butler, suspended for the first eight games for violating a team academic rule, scored 14 of her 15 points in the first half for Georgia Tech. Nina Barlin added 10.

Butler was eligible by NCAA standards but was suspended by coach Agnus Berenato.

Barlin scored five straight to get the Yellow Jackets to 48-45 with 5:58 left, but they couldn't overcome another dry spell. An 11-2 run gave Georgia a 12-point lead and effectively ended the game.

No. 2 Tennessee beat No. 9 Duke 89-68 in the opener of the shootout, held in conjunction with Monday's Peach Bowl.

In her second game back from suspension, Butler dominated the first half. She hit 7 of 12 shots and grabbed six rebounds, leading Georgia Tech to a 29-29 tie at the break.

The second half was a different story. Butler missed all 10 of her shots, and added only a free throw to her total.

The teams met for the first time in 1975 and have played one game a year since 1983. The past three games have been held in Marietta, a northern suburb of Atlanta.
