NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Chantelle Anderson scored 18 points and Zuzi Klimesova added 16 as No. 6 Vanderbilt beat Louisiana State 63-48 Sunday night in the Southeastern Conference tournament championship for its first title since 1995 and third overall.

The Commodores (27-6) also won the tournament title in 1993 and were runners-up to Georgia last year. They will head into the NCAA tournament having won eight of their last nine. Vanderbilt beat LSU three times this season.

Fourth-seeded LSU (17-11) upset third-ranked Tennessee in the semifinals to reach the championship game for first time since winning its only title in 1991. But the Lady Tigers, dressing only seven players, didn't have enough left against Vanderbilt.

The Lady Tigers became the only team to hold a lead over Vanderbilt in the SEC tournament when Scholanda Dorrell finished a fast break with a layup with 12:16 left in the game, putting LSU up 38-37.

It didn't last as Vandy responded with a 9-2 run keyed by six points by Klimesova.

Guard Temeka Johnson, who had a game-high 22 points, tried to rally the Lady Tigers one more time. She scored, and Ke-Ke Tardy added a jumper to get within 46-44. That was as close as they would get.

Tardy finished with 12 points for LSU.

Vanderbilt is the nation's best shooting team, men or women, but the Commodores didn't show it in the first half.

They looked ready to blow out LSU after jumping to a 12-2 lead. The Lady Tigers hit only two of their first eight shots, and Vandy couldn't miss.

But the Commodores then went seven minutes with only one bucket by Anderson and The Lady Tigers went on a 10-2 spurt. When Aiysha Smith capped the run with her only basket of the half at 8:56, LSU had pulled within 14-12.

Johnson scored eight of the last 10 points of the half to keep the Lady Tigers within 28-26 at the break.
