Team Notes

ALABAMA Crimson Tide
Sunday's game against Florida marked the beginning of a four-game stretch for the Crimson Tide against nationally-ranked opponents. This week Alabama faces Vanderbilt and Tennessee. Alabama victory at Arkansas on Thursday marked UA's first win in Fayetteville since 1996. Against the Lady Gators, LaNisha Cartwell (23 points) and Shun Hunter (15 pts) both scored career highs. The win over Arkansas was the 264th of Rick Moody's tenure tying him with Hank Crisp for second in all-time basketball coaching wins (men's or women's) at Alabama.

ARKANSAS Lady Razorbacks
With her four assists against #9 South Carolina, senior point guard Amy Wright becomes the first player in Lady Razorback history to cross the 600 assist mark. Wright became the all-time leader at Arkansas earlier this year, and also picked up her 600th career point last week against Alabama. Sophomore Shameka Christon is now ranks 10th in career blocked shots with her 53rd versus Bama. Junior India Lewis got her 600th career point against USC, and is closing on the career top 30 scorers for Arkansas.

AUBURN Tigers
The Tigers won their first conference game with a 70-66 win at Kentucky on Sunday. Tia Miller, missed the game with a sprained left knee suffered late in the second half in the loss to Tennessee on Thursday. She is listed as day-to-day. After playing back-to-back road games in the conference the Tigers return home to host Georgia and Mississippi State this week at Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum. Auburn had its third best performance from the free throw line of the season in the win at Kentucky, hitting 18 of 22, including 16 of 18 in the second half and six of six inside a minute to play in the game. All three of Auburn's losses this season have come to top 25 teams with an overtime loss to Iowa State and SEC losses to Florida and Tennessee.

FLORIDA Lady Gators
Florida plays host to Mississippi on Sunday, January 20. The game is the first of two meetings against the Lady Rebels this season. UF owns a slim 9-8 lead in the all-time series, including a 9-2 record under head coach Carol Ross. Sunday's game is the last contest UF will play before a four-game stretch versus top-10 ranked teams (as listed in the Jan. 7th USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll). UF head coach Carol Ross faces her alma mater Ole Miss, where she was a four-year starter for the Lady Rebels from 1978-81 when Ole Miss logged a 93-50 record. Ross became the fourth woman ever to be inducted into the University of Mississippi Athletic Hall of Fame, when she was honored on September 1, 2001.

GEORGIA Lady Bulldogs
The Lady Bulldogs defeated Morris Brown 105-36 last Monday. Georgia held the Lady Wolverines to seven first-half points, the fewest in NCAA Division I history for a single half. The Lady Dogs lost both their SEC games last week, falling to 1-2 in the league. Oddly, Georgia leads the SEC in FG percentage in conference games at 50.3 percent. Christi Thomas scored a season-high 25 points at Mississippi State, the most by a Georgia player this season. UGA fell to Mississippi State 84-82 on Sunday, only the fifth time that UGA has scored 81 points or more and lost (versus 333 wins) during Andy Landers' 23 seasons in Athens. The Lady Bulldogs return to action this Thursday when they travel to Auburn. Georgia host Vanderbilt Sunday in an ESPN2 nationally televised game at 3:00 p.m.

KENTUCKY Lady Wildcats
Kentucky looks to get back on the winning track after dropping back-to-back conference games last week. The Cats fell to No. 8 Vanderbilt, 71-54, on Thursday and despite a valiant comeback effort in the second half, fell to No. 19 Auburn on Sunday, 70-66. Sophomore SeSe Helm led the scoring effort in both games, scoring 14 and 18 points, points respectively. Helm's double-figure scoring streak increases to 16 straight games. Junior Rita Adams dished out a total of 17 assists in the past two games with nine against the Commodores and eight against the Tigers. She also grabbed a career-high nine rebounds to go along with her 17 points against Auburn.

LSU Lady Tigers
Doneeka Hodges scored a career-high 29 points in the Lady Tigers' victory over Florida, before adding 20 points against Tennessee. She is now averaging over 20 points per SEC game. LSU defeated its first nationally ranked opponent this season with a 25-point victory over #15 Florida, the largest Lady Tiger win over a ranked opponent in three years. The Lady Tigers also hung tough at No. 2 Tennessee for the majority of the game before a 12-point loss, the closest LSU has come to defeating the Lady Vols in Knoxville since a seven-point loss in 1988.

OLE MISS Lady Rebels
Freshman Carletta Brown has come off the bench to provide a spark in the last two contests for Ole Miss. Brown scored six points and had one assist and one steal in 10 minutes of action versus Vanderbilt. She also had eight points, two assists and one steal in 17 minutes versus Mississippi State. Ole Miss will host LSU on Thursday before traveling to Florida on Sunday. The Lady Rebels have played just five home games so far this season. The home game against LSU will be just the third game out of the last Ole Miss games played at home.

MISSISSIPPI STATE Lady Bulldogs
Mississippi State is off to its best start in the SEC in school history with a 3-1 mark in league play. The Lady Bulldogs defeated its third nationally-ranked team this season with an 84-82 victory over No. 8 Georgia. LaToya Thomas' 43 points marked the most points scored against UGA by an individual in school history. Although it was the third time in her career to hit the 40-point mark, it was the first time Thomas did so on her home court. Sunday's victory marked only the fifth time in UGA women's basketball history that Georgia was defeated when scoring 81 or more points.

SOUTH CAROLINA Lady Gamecocks
The ninth-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks extended the winning streak last week with victories over Arkansas and #15/8 Georgia Lady Bulldogs. With the 91-66 defeat of Arkansas Sunday, the Lady Gamecocks extended their winning streak to 12 games and 11 consecutive victories at home. Jocelyn Penn tied her career high of 32 points and became the 24th member of the USC 1,000 Point Club. Petra Ujhelyi added a season-high 13 rebounds. On Thursday night, USC went on the road to defeat Georgia, 71-64. Tatyana Troina nailed six three-pointers to lead the team with 22 points.

TENNESSEE Lady Volunteers
In the game versus LSU, the Lady Vols did not allow the Lady Tigers an offensive rebound in the second half - holding them to just 7 for the game. With the victory over LSU, Tennessee currently has won 35 consecutive SEC games at home. The last SEC loss at home was to Georgia on Dec. 8, 1996, 94-93 (OT). The Lady Vols have picked right up where they left off the last couple of seasons leading the nation in women's basketball attendance. Last week (as of Jan. 11), UT is in first place averaging 15,132 while Texas Tech is in second place with 13,446. The crowd of 24,611 at the Tennessee-Connecticut game on Jan. 5, 2002, broke the women's basketball collegiate record for largest attendance. The previous record was 24,597 set on Jan. 3, 1998, when UT defeated UConn, 84-69, in Knoxville.

VANDERBILT Commodores
Senior guard Jillian Danker is seven points shy of joining teammates Chantelle Anderson and Zuzi Klimesova in the VU 1000 point club. Junior center Chantelle Anderson recorded a double-double in consecutive games for the second time in her career - she numbered 33 points and 10 rebounds vs. Kentucky and 16 points and 11 rebounds vs. Mississippi. Anderson totaled at least two blocked shots in three consecutive games. Senior forward Zuzi Klimesova has scored in double figures in 90 games placing her fifth on the VU Charts. She also moved into fifth place on the VU All-Time rebounding list with 835 and is seventh on the VU All-Time Scoring List with 1,607 points. Zuzi became only the seventh Commodore to ever score 1,600 points in a career with her 14 points vs. Mississippi. Anderson became the sixth Commodore to ever score 1,600 points career points with her 33 point performance vs. Kentucky.
