    Team Notes
    ALABAMA Crimson Tide
    The Crimson Tide is making down-to-the-wire finishes a regular occurance this year with half of Alabama's games (7 of 14) being decided by five points or less. UA is 3-4 in those games inlcuding a heartbreaking one-point loss to Kentucky on Sunday. Alabama will play three of its next four SEC games on the road beginning on Thursday at Arkansas. The Tide will also face four nationally-ranked foes in its next five games. With a rebounding edge against UK, the Tide has now out-rebounded its opponent in 13 of 14 games this year. Beth Vice continued her three-point string versus Kentucky. Vice has made atleast one trey in every game this year for the Tide and has made one in 17 consecutive games.

    ARKANSAS Lady Razorbacks
    Ole Miss handed Arkansas an 81-46 defeat in the Southeastern Conference opener for both teams at Tad Smith Coliseum. Arkansas, 9-4, dropped the conference opener and continued its winless streak at Oxford. The Lady Rebels held Arkansas to a season-low with 46 points. Eight points by freshman Keisha Beard off the bench led Arkansas, marking only the third time in school history for the Lady'Backs to have no one in double-digits. Behind Beard's eight points, Arkansas got six from Christon and five from Lewis. Arkansas has its SEC home opener on Thursday, Jan. 10, against Alabama at Bud Walton Arena at 7 p.m.

    AUBURN Tigers
    Auburn was off to its best start at 12-1 (prior to the loss to Florida) since the team began the 1992-93 season 24-1. The Tigers had their nine-game home court winning streak snapped by Florida. Tia Miller is now averaging 16.7 points and 9.0 rebounds per game in three games against teams from her home state of Florida. Auburn will make a two-game road swing this weekend when they travel to Knoxville to face No. 2 Tennessee on Thursday and then head to Lexington to face Kentucky on Sunday. The trip of five days, will be the Tigers longest of the conference season and equals the five-day trip to San Diego the team took after the holiday break.

    FLORIDA Lady Gators
    This week's schedule has Florida traveling to LSU on Thursday before playing host to Alabama on Sunday. Entering this week's action, the Lady Gators are 2-2 against ranked opponents. Vanessa Hayden tallied her SEC-leading 10th double-double this season, recording 15 points with a career-tying 18 rebounds at Auburn. She has blocked a shot in 32 consecutive games. Brandi McCain has netted at least one 3-pointer in 30 straight games.

    GEORGIA Lady Bulldogs
    The Lady Bulldogs 11-game winning streak to open the 2001-02 campaign ended with a loss at Michigan State on Saturday. The 11-0 start was the fourth-best in Lady Bulldog history. Georgia plays its third game in five days on Monday night when it hosts Morris Brown. The Wolverines are coached by Saudia Roundtree, who was the 1996 SEC and National Player of the Year while leading Georgia to an NCAA runner-up finish. Georgia then faces two of its three SEC home-and-home foes this season in consecutive matchups -- South Carolina in Athens on Thursday and travels to Mississippi State on Sunday. The Lady Dogs are 19-2 all-time versus USC, including a 9-0 mark in Athens. Georgia is 16-7 all-time against Mississippi State, including a 6-4 record in Starkville.

    KENTUCKY Lady Wildcats
    Kentucky split conference games this week, dropping to Mississippi State in its conference opener in Lexington, 59-54, despite leading most of the second half. Junior Rita Adams broke out of a four-game scoring slump to lead UK with 20 points. The Cats bounced back with a thrilling 63-62 win over Alabama on Sunday. It was their third straight win over Alabama, but their first win over the Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa since 1990. Sophomore center SeSe Helm led the Cats with 23 points, recording her 14th straight game in double digits. UK travels to Nashville, Tenn., this week to take on nationally-ranked Vanderbilt.

    LSU Lady Tigers
    the LSU women's basketball team dropped its Southeastern Conference opener, 72-56 to nationally ranked Georgia on Thursday night in Stegeman Coliseum. The loss dropped the Lady Tigers to 7-5. LSU has a week off before facing nationally ranked Florida on Jan. 10 in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center at 7 p.m.

    OLE MISS Lady Rebels
    Ole Miss is averaging 75.5 points per game this season, 6.7 points per game more than a season ago. Freshman Ally Kelly continues to lead a balanced Lady Rebel attack in scoring with 12.2 points per game. Kelly has scored in double figures in 12-of-14 games this season. Senior Von Kirk is averaging 5.1 rebounds per game from her guard positions. Kirk has tied her career high in rebounds the past two games with nine rebounds in each contest. Ole Miss had five players score in double digits for the first time this season in their, 81-46, win over Arkansas.

    MISSISSIPPI STATE Lady Bulldogs
    The Lady Bulldogs won their first SEC opener on the road since 1991 when they came from behind to defeat Kentucky 79-74 last Thursday. MSU went up against its fourth top-25 team this season on Sunday hosting South Carolina at home. The 79-64 loss gives State a 2-2 record vs. nationally-ranked teams this season. LaToya Thomas currently has a 78-game double-digit scoring streak while Tan White has a 15-game streak. Both Lady Bulldogs have scored in double digits in every game of their career in the Maroon and White.

    SOUTH CAROLINA Lady Gamecocks
    With two wins last week, the #14/15 University of South Carolina Gamecocks pushed the winning streak to 10 games and improved its record to 14-1 and 2-0 in the SEC. On Sunday, the Gamecocks defeated Mississippi State, 79-64, on the road. The 15-point final outcome was the teamšs seventh consecutive victory by a double-digit margin and South Carolinašs first victory ever in Starkville. Four USC players scored in double figures as Petra Ujhelyi led the way with 20 points. Teresa Geter contributed her third double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Cristina Ciocan chipped in 13 points, six assists and a career-high eight steals in the win.

    TENNESSEE Lady Volunteers
    Going into the Jan. 10th game versus Auburn, the Lady Vols have won 33 consecutive SEC home games dating back to Jan. 12, 1997. UT's streak started after an OT loss to Georgia, 94-93,on Dec. 8, 1996. The crowd of 24,611 in Thompson-Boling Arena versus UConn on Jan. 5, 2002, is the new all-time largest attendance ever to see a women's college basketball game. The mark eclipses the crowd of 24,597 who jammed TBA to see these same two teams play in 1998. The loss to UConn snaps the Lady Vols 26-game home court winning streak. After playing eight games on the road over the last 43 days, the Lady Vols will play its next four games at home over the next week.

    VANDERBILT Commodores
    The Commodores defeated #25 Penn State for the first time in three tries in Memorial Gym, 77-62. A crowd of 9,712 fans, the 10th largest for a VU women's game, were on hand. Freshman Ashley Earley has played in all 16 games while starting in the last three contests. She has gone over the 100 point mark for the season and numbers 92 rebounds averaging 21.2 minutes a game. Head coach Jim Foster is 11 victories away from 250 career wins at Vanderbilt. The Commodores totaled a season low 18 field goals and 37 field goal attempts in the South Carolina loss.

    SEC IN THE POLLS
    Since the AP poll began in 1983 and the USA Today/ESPN poll in 1986, the SEC has never failed to place at least four members in each of the final polls.

    This season, the SEC has had three teams in the AP and USA Today/ESPN Top 10 this season. During the 1996-97, season five league teams graced the AP Top 10 three times.

    As many as seven SEC teams have been ranked in the AP poll, and the USA Today/ESPN poll this season. The record for SEC teams ranked is eight. The league did this twice, in the1995-96 season and again during the 1996-97 season.

    In terms of rankings, the SEC has the richest history of any conference in the nation, boasting more poll appearances than any other. SEC teams have been ranked in the AP poll for 319 consecutive weeks. League teams have been ranked 2,063 times including 1,140 Top 10 appearances and 579 Top Five appearances.
