Player of the Week
Tan White, Mississippi State
Freshman * Guard * Tupelo, Miss.

* White earned her second straight MVP title in two straight tournaments.

* Helped MSU to a 71-58 victory over No. 13/17 N. C. State.

* Has scored in double digits in all eleven games this season, including three of the last four contests with 20+ points.

* MSU's only three-pointer of the N.C. State game came when White beat the 30-second clock with a desperation shot from three feet behind the arc. That shot helped keep MSU's 252-game streak of having at least one three-pointer per game alive.

Team Notes

ALABAMA Crimson Tide
Alabama captured the tournament title at the Torneo Cancun de Basquetbol for the second time in three years. Bama defeated SMU and Maryland en route to the championship. UA has now won 33 all-time tournament titles with Coach Rick Moody leading the Tide to 25 during his tenure. The Crimson Tide have out-rebounded every opponent this season including a 20-rebound margin in their win over a much taller Maryland squad. Shondra Johnson was named the MVP of the Torneo Cancun and fellow senior LaNisha Cartwell earned all-tournament honors. The Tide will take a few days off for Christmas before returning to action against UMass on Dec. 29 in the opening round of the PNC Wildcat Classic in Villanova, Pa.

ARKANSAS Lady Razorbacks
Junior India Lewis quietly scored 15 points to lead the University of Arkansas Lady Razorbacks to an 18-point win at Bud Walton Arena on Friday evening, 73-55 over the Dayton Fliers. The Lady Razorback victory improves their record to 8-2. The Lady Razorbacks will take their show on the road for their next contest, another non-conference match-up with Texas Christian University on Saturday, Dec. 29 at 5:30 p.m. in Fort Worth, Texas.

AUBURN Tigers
Auburn is now 11-0 for the second straight season and the sixth time in school history. The Tigers are also 76-2 in the last 78 game against non-SEC opponents in Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum. Auburn finished its non-SEC home schedule with a win over Troy State on Dec. 20th to start the year 9-0 at home. The Tigers travel to San Diego to play in the Surf & Slam Hoop Classic on Dec. 28 and 30 hosted by the University of San Diego. Auburn will face No. 5 Iowa State in the first round, the highest ranked non-conference foe for the Tigers since No. 4 Louisiana Tech in the second round of the 1997 NCAA Tournament.

FLORIDA Lady Gators
Florida returns from the Christmas break to host the 12th Annual State Farm Classic (Dec. 28 & 29), featuring Duquesne, Howard and Kent State. The Lady Gator's 61-50 win over Colorado on Dec. 21st marked UF's 23rd upset of a higher ranked team in 11-plus years under Coach Carol Ross. Sophomore Vanessa Hayden broke a 22-year old school record by blocking nine shots in the upset victory over No. 14/12 Colorado, passing the previous mark of eight set by Quientella Bonner on JANUARY 22, 1979 against Alabama. Also against Colorado, Hayden recorded her SEC-leading eighth double-double of the year with a game-high 24 points and 17 rebounds. The double-double was the 19th of her young career. Hayden has blocked at least one shot in 28 consecutive games.

GEORGIA Lady Bulldogs
Georgia's No. 8-ranked Lady Bulldogs rolled to a 72-51 win over Oakland University here on Wednesday night to improve to 8-0 on the year. The win sends the Lady Bulldogs into the Christmas break with an undefeated record for only the fifth time ever. Georgia will return to action next Wednesday when the Lady Dogs face Georgia Tech at Phillips Arena at 3:00. The matchup is the second game of the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl SEC/ACC Shootout, which also features Tennessee versus Duke.

KENTUCKY Lady Wildcats
The Cats won their 13th consecutive game over Louisville in Memorial Coliseum with a 72-53 win on Wednesday. Freshman Sara Potts tied her career-high 15 points and three-pointers made (four) against the Cards. Senior forward LaTonya McDole grabbed two steals against Evansville on Saturday for her 201st career steal. She join UK greats Valerie Still and Leslie Nichols as the three players in school history who have recorded 1,000 points, 600 rebounds and 200 steals in a career. Sophomore SeSe Helm charted her 10th straight game with double digits with a career-high 26 points and 13 rebounds in the Cats' 78-72 setback to EU. She leads UK in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 16.6 points and 7.9 rebounds per game.

LSU Lady Tigers
LSU won their three games last week by an average of 41 points. 56-point victory over Mercer was sixth largest in school history. Held Prairie View to only eight points in the first half, lowest opponent total in a half in school history, two points below the 10 the Lady Tigers held Florida to in 1986.

OLE MISS Lady Rebels
For the second day in a row, the Ole Miss women's basketball team streaked out to a 17-point halftime lead. This time, however, they managed to not only keep the lead, but extended it to as much as 41 points before finishing the game with a, 79-53, win over the host Central Florida (6-5). The Lady Rebels, who squandered a 17-point halftime lead in a loss to South Alabama on Friday, used balanced scoring as 10-of-13 players that played scored, in the game. Sherika Wright led four Ole Miss players in double figures with 16 points.

MISSISSIPPI STATE Lady Bulldogs
The Lady Bulldogs have defeated two top-25 ACC teams, including their most recent win over N.C. State. MSU took home its second tournament title when it won the Torneo de Basquetbol Championship in Cancun, Mexico last week. It marked the first time the Lady Bulldogs have played outside of the United States. LaToya Thomas was also named to the all-tournament team. Thomas scored 48 points and grabbed 21 rebounds in the two-game tournament, including her 32-point, 13-rebound against Pittsburgh. Sophomore Seneca Anderson scored a career-high 15 points vs. Pittsburgh.

SOUTH CAROLINA Lady Gamecocks
South Carolina finished its pre-Christmas schedule with a 85-53 victory over the 16th-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels Thursday night in the ACC-SEC Beach Ball Classic (Myrtle Beach, SC). With the win, USC extended its winning streak to six games and moved to 10-1 on the season. The 10-1 record establishes South Carolina's best start since the 1981-82 season when the Lady Gamecocks opened the year with a 10-0 mark. Teresa Geter led the way against North Carolina with her second double-double of the year (sixth in her career) with 21 points, 15 rebounds, three blocks and four steals.

TENNESSEE Lady Volunteers
Gwen Jackson and Kara Lawson scored a combined 31 points as Tennessee's defense holds nation's leading scorer, Lenae Williams, to just 10 points in the 80-66 win over DePaul. Tennessee will return to action next Wednesday when the Lady Vols face Duke in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl SEC/ACC Shootout.

VANDERBILT Commodores
Freshman Abi Ramsey came off the bench to hit four 3-pointers within 3 minutes to Vanderbilt a 17-point lead over Vermont. She played for six minutes and totaled 12 points. Zuzi Klimesova recorded her third double-double of the season with 14 points and 13 rebounds at Vermont. Chantelle Anderson totaled 16 points (6-7 FGs, 4-4 FTs), eight rebounds and two blocked shots in 30 minutes of play at Vermont. VU plays at Texas Tech on Saturday (Dec. 29) in a noon CT tipoff on ComCast Television.
