Cross Country:
Arkansas claimed its 11th national title in men's cross country while the Lady Razorbacks were the SEC's top finisher at the NCAA Championships with a 13th-place finish. Arkansas also won its 10th straight SEC men's cross country title and its eighth women's SEC title in the last 10 seasons.

Setting the Standard for Excellence

  • During the last 11 seasons, the SEC has won seven national championships in men's cross country, all by Arkansas. No other school in the nation has won as many men's cross country national championships as the Razorbacks - 11 in all.

  • SEC schools have had 93 appearances in the NCAA men's cross country championships with 12 titles to their credit. Arkansas has won 11 national titles and Tennessee claimed an NCAA title in 1972.

  • While the SEC has not had a national champion in women's cross country since 1988 when Kentucky won the title, the league has been a factor at the national championships. The SEC has had a team in the top three in eight of the last 13 years.

  • The SEC has had 39 appearances in the NCAA women's cross country championships, with at least one SEC team in the national meet every year since the NCAA began sponsoring the national competition in 1981.


Football:
During the last five seasons, the Southeastern Conference has had more teams ranked in the final Associated Press polls (28) and has sent more teams to postseason bowl games (36) than any other conference.

During the last five seasons, the SEC has sent 36 teams to postseason bowl games, the most of any conference in the nation. Eleven of the SEC's 12 teams have been to bowls during that time. The conference with the next most bowl bids in the last five years is the Big Ten with 32 trips.

Setting the Standard for Excellence

  • For the 20th straight season, the SEC recorded the largest total attendance figure of any conference in the nation. In 2000, more than 5.1 million fans passed through the turnstiles at SEC stadiums. Conference stadiums were filled to an average of 94.8 percent during the 2000 season.

  • Seven SEC schools placed in the top 11 in average attendance last season, according to the NCAA. Tennessee (2), LSU (5), Florida (6), Georgia (7), Alabama (8), Auburn (9) and South Carolina (11) finished in the top 11 in average attendance during the 2000 season.

  • The SEC sent an NCAA-record nine teams to postseason bowl games in 2000. The SEC sent eight teams to bowl games in 1998 and 1999. At the time, it was the first time eight teams from a conference had been to bowls in one season. Eleven of the 12 SEC teams have been to postseason bowls in the last two seasons.

  • Since 1992 (first year of divisional play), the SEC is 252-70-2 (.781) in regular season non-conference contests. In 15 of the last 21 seasons, no league has posted a better non-conference regular season winning percentage than the SEC. Last season, the SEC was 27-9 (.750) in non-conference regular season games, tied for first in the nation.


Soccer:
Florida's Abby Wambach was named the SEC Player of the Year and was also the MVP of the SEC Tournament. Florida coach Becky Burleigh was named the SEC Coach of the Year and Tennessee's Rhian Wilkinson was the SEC Freshman of the Year. Wambach was named second-team All-America and teammate Keisha Bell was honorable mention All-America.

The Lady Gators won their fifth straight conference title in 2000, going through the regular season undefeated and won the SEC Tournament, giving up just two goals in three matches. During its five-year reign as SEC champions, Florida has lost just one conference game.

Setting the Standard for Excellence

  • In just its eighth year of existence, SEC soccer has already clinched a national championship (Florida, 1998) and an Elite Eight appearance (Florida, 1996).

  • Six SEC teams have already made NCAA postseason competition - Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina and Vanderbilt. Last season, Florida was the only SEC team to advance to the NCAA Tournament.

  • SEC teams posted a 73-53-3 record in non-conference competition in 2000, a 58.2 winning percentage.


Volleyball:
South Carolina earned its fourth NCAA berth in the last six years and Tennessee made the NCAA field for the first time since 1993. Florida captured its 10th straight SEC title and its eighth SEC Tournament title in the last nine years in 2000. The Lady Gators advanced to the NCAA Pacific Region semifinal and finished 12th in the final USA Today/AVCA poll.

Setting the Standard for Excellence

  • The SEC has sent at least two teams to the NCAA Tournament for each of the last 11 seasons.

  • Ten of the 11 teams posted double digit wins in 2000, with four hitting the 20-win mark. Seven teams won 50 percent-or-more of their matches last season.

  • Florida coach Mary Wise was named the SEC Coach of the Year for the third straight year and the eighth time overall, while Lady Gator Nicole McCray was named the SEC Player of the Year and teammate Aury Cruz earned SEC Freshman of the Year honors.

  • SEC volleyball teams posted a 109-62 non-conference mark in 2000, a 63.7 winning percentage. Every SEC squad except two won at least 50 percent of its non-conference matches.
