    • Swept both the 110m hurdles and the 400m hurdles at the Cal Invitational held in Berkely, Calif. last weekend.
    • Won the 110m hurdles in a time of 13.88 which stands as a personal-best, an NCAA provisional qualifying time and as second-fastest in the SEC this season.
    • Was the only UT athlete to win two events over the weekend, leading the Vols to the overall title.

    TEAM-BY-TEAM NOTES

    ALABAMA "Crimson Tide"
    The No. 3 ranked (Trackwire) University of Alabama men's track and field team won an unprecedented fourth consecutive Alabama Relays title as the team outscored the Mississippi State Bulldogs 46-34 to capture first place in the meet. Alabama captured first place in the 4x800m relay, the 4x110m shuttle hurdle relay and the distance medley relay. Alabama will be in action again next weekend when the team travels to California for the prestigious Stanford Invite.

    ARKANSAS "Razorbacks"
    Arkansas picked up two provisional qualifiers at the SEC Quad meet in Starkville. Freshman Ahmad Carroll qualified in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.34. Junior Richard Smith provisionally qualified in the long jump with a leap of 25-2.50...Arkansas won seven events at the SEC Quad.

    AUBURN "Tigers"
    The Auburn men's team was led by juniors Fred Sharpe and Sanjay Ayre last week in Baton Rouge, La. Sharpe ran a NCAA Automatic time of 50.10 in the 400-meter hurdles to take top honors while Ayre ran 46.47 in the 400-meter dash to take first.

    FLORIDA "Gators"
    After opening the season at the Florida State Relays with a partial squad, the entire UF team will host the 59th annual Coca Cola Florida Relays this week at Percy Beard Stadium. The four-day meet will feature a number of current and former NCAA Champions, American record holders and Olympic gold medalists. The meet will begin with the heptathlon and the decathlon on Wednesday and will run through Saturday. Last season, UF was a perfect seven for seven in relays, set one school record and had a provisional qualifier. All told, the Gators had a total of 10 wins in the relay carnival.

    GEORGIA "Bulldogs"
    The Bulldogs placed second in the team scoring at the SEC three-way competition in Baton Rouge March 23. The LSU men and women both won, while Auburn took third in the men's and women's scoring. The Georgia men were led by wins in seven events. Defending NCAA hammer throw champion Andras Haklits recorded an automatic qualifying mark in the event at LSU, winning with a mark of 69.18 meters (227 feet).

    KENTUCKY "Wildcats"
    University of Kentucky junior Hunter Spencer finished third in the mile at the 2002 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., this weekend. Spencer's time of 4:02.93 was a personal best and the third-fastest time in school history, and it earned him the second All-America honor of his career. In doing so, he was the top American finisher and helped UK's men claim 23rd place at the championships. The Wildcats will next be in action on March 29-30 when they compete at the Stanford Invitational.

    LSU "Tigers"
    The Tigers won the team title at the SEC Three-way meet at Bernie Moore Track Stadium, beating Georgia and Auburn. Lueroy Colquhoun came up with a near-NCAA automatic qualifying time of 50.11 in only his second career attempt at the 400-meter hurdles. 2000 Olympian Walter Davis made a successful outdoor debut, winning the long jump with a mark of 25-10. Marcus Thomas claimed the triple jump title in his first triple jump competition since the 2001 NCAA Indoor meet, posting a mark of 52-11 1/2.

    OLE MISS "Rebels"
    The Ole Miss track and field squads picked up a first place finish and a provisional qualifying marks for the 2002 NCAA Outdoor Championships over the weekend at the 2002 Alabama Relays. Sophomore Kendrick Triggs picked up Ole Miss' final first-place finish and provisional qualifying mark of the meet with his time of 20.84 in the 200 meters.

    MISSISSIPPI STATE "Bulldogs"
    The Bulldogs have had an impressive opening to the outdoor season. The men tied for first at the opener, SEC Quadrangular, and took second-place honors at the Alabama Relays this past weekend. Junior Pierre Browne is tearing up the track, with an automatic qualifying mark in the 100-meter dash (10.13) and anchoring the 4x100m relay squad to provisional qualifying marks in the first two meets. Coming up for the Bulldogs is the Bulldog Invitational on March 30.

    SOUTH CAROLINA "Gamecocks"
    On the final day of competition at the Weems Baskein Invitational Track Meet, the University of South Carolina ran away with the competition winning 16 events and qualifying three for the NCAA Championships. The Gamecocks competed against over 20 teams from across the nation at the two-day event at the Weems Baskin Track Facility. South Carolina next competes at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, NC and the Florida Relays in Gainesville, FL on March 29-30th.

    TENNESSEE "Volunteers"
    Tennessee piled up 11 wins and 227.5 points to win the Cal Invitational Saturday. Karl Jennings (110M hurdles, 13.88), Rocky Danners (pole vault, 17-7), Leigh Smith (javelin, 220-8) and the 4x100M relay team (Sean Lambert, Justin Gatlin, Hassaan Stamps, Leonard Scott) posted provisional marks with their winning efforts. The Vols continued their outdoor undefeated streak, as they haven't lost a scored meet outdoors since the 2000 NCAA Championships. Tennessee hosts a strong SEC field comprised of Florida, Kentucky and South Carolina in the team-scored Gatorade Classic April 5-6.

    • Martin captrued both the shot put and discus events over the weekend at the SEC three way meet help in Baton Rouge, La.
    • She threw 50-3.5 in the shot put and 155-6 to capture the discus title. Martin also placed third in the Hammer throw with a toss of 164-9.
    • The award marks the first weekly honor for Martin and also marks the first time an Auburn female track athlete has been named SEC Track Athlete of the Week.

    TEAM-BY-TEAM NOTES

    ALABAMA "Crimson Tide"
    The Alabama women's track team finished in third place with 27 points in the Alabama Relays on Sunday in Tuscaloosa. Pittsburg claimed first for the third year in a row with 52 points followed by Ole Miss in second with 32 points. Alabama's shuttle hurdle relay team of LaTasha Pharr, Nicole Ireland, Petagay Gayle and Beau Walker took first place with a time of 56.72 seconds. The Crimson Tide also won the 4x200 meter relay as Tee Carter, Judyth Kitson, Walker and Ireland teamed for a time of 1:34.95. The Alabama women's track team will next compete on March 29-30 at Stanford University.

    ARKANSAS "Razorbacks"
    Senior Jessica Sommerfeld led the University of Arkansas Lady Razorback track team's attack at the Southeastern Conference Quadrangular this weekend with an Arkansas school record and NCAA provisional qualifier in the javelin throw to pace Arkansas to a team victory in Starkville, Miss. The Lady Razorbacks will get a break next weekend before heading back on the road for the Stanford Invitational March 29-30.

    AUBURN "Tigers"
    The women turned in six first place finishes last week at LSU. Elva Goulbourne and Shelly-Ann Gallimore both put up NCAA Automatic qualifying marks en route to winning their respective events. Goulbourne jumped 21-07.50 to win the long jump while Gallimore leaped 44-10.25 to win the triple jump. Stacy Martin took both the shot put and discus titles by throwing 50-03.50 and 155-06.00, respectively. Spring Dawson won her second 800-meter title in as many weeks as she turned in a time of 2:08.54 while Alexis Hamblet took top honors in the 3000-meter run after a time of 9:42.62.

    FLORIDA "Gators"
    After opening the season at the Florida State Relays with a partial squad, the entire UF team will host the 59th annual Coca Cola Florida Relays this week at Percy Beard Stadium. The four-day meet will feature a number of current and former NCAA Champions, American record holders and Olympic gold medalists. The meet will begin with the heptathlon and the decathlon on Wednesday and will run through Saturday. Last season, UF was a perfect seven for seven in relays, set one meet record and had two provisional qualifying relays. All told, the Gators had a total of 10 wins in the relay carnival.

    GEORGIA "Bulldogs"
    The Lady Bulldogs placed second in the team scoring at the SEC three-way competition in Baton Rouge March 23. The LSU men and women both won, while Auburn took third in the men's and women's scoring. The Georgia men were led by wins in seven events, while the women tallied wins in six events. The Georgia track and field team travels to Gainesville, Fla., this weekend for the Florida Relays at UF's Percy Beard Track and Field Complex, March 27-30.

    KENTUCKY "Wildcats"
    The Wildcats will next be in action on March 29-30 when they compete at the Stanford Invitational.

    LSU "Tigers"
    The Lady Tigers picked up the team title at the SEC Three-Way, beating Georgia and Auburn. NCAA 200-meter champion Muna Lee got off to a good start in her first open event of the outdoor season, winning the deuce in a provisional time of 23.33. Ronetta Smith came up with a very fast early season time in the 400-meter dash, winning the title in a high provisional time of 52.69, while Lolo Jones recorded a provisional mark in the 100-meter dash with a winning time of 11.54. In the field, Candice Gonzalez broke her school record in the hammer throw with an NCAA provisional mark of 187-5. It was the first provisional mark ever by a Lady Tiger in the event.

    OLE MISS "Rebels"
    The Ole Miss track and field squads picked up four first place finishes and three provisional qualifying marks for the 2002 NCAA Outdoor Championships over the weekend at the 2002 Alabama Relays. Leading the way for Ole Miss was junior Willisa Heintz. Heintz picked up one provisional qualifying mark (200 meters) and two first-place finishes (100 meters, 200 meters). Heintz clocked in at 11.75 in winning the 100 meters and had a provisional qualifying mark of 23.51 in winning the 200 meters.

    MISSISSIPPI STATE "Bulldogs"
    Coach Al Schmidt's squad took fifth this weekend at the Alabama Relays, after finishing second at the SEC Quadrangular. Distance running is again leading the squad, as Tiffany McWilliams is coming close to a provisional qualifying mark in the 800-meter run. Next up for the Lady Bulldogs is the Bulldog Invitational in Starkville Sat., March 30.

    SOUTH CAROLINA "Gamecocks"
    On the final day of competition at the Weems Baskein Invitational Track Meet, the University of South Carolina ran away with the competition winning 16 events and qualifying three for the NCAA Championships. The Gamecocks competed against over 20 teams from across the nation at the two-day event at the Weems Baskin Track Facility. South Carolina next competes at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, NC and the Florida Relays in Gainesville, FL on March 29-30th.

    TENNESSEE "Volunteers"
    Diane Slinden improved her NCAA provisional qualifying mark to 173-8 in finishing as the top collegiate in the discus at the FSU Relays. Demita Miller made the provisional list in the javelin at the Georgia Relays on March 16. The 2001 SEC Champion posted a top mark of 146-1. UT's sprint medley claimed victoy at FSU, notching the third best time in school history at 3:50.96.

    VANDERBILT "Commodores"
    The Vanderbilt 4x800m relay team placed 3rd in 9:14.23 at the Alabama Relays on Sunday, leading Commodore scoring with six points. The team consisted of Anne Machalinski, Jocelyn Theriault, Joy Parker, and Dara Crocker. Vanderbilt also held scoring positions in the distance and sprint medley relays. The DMR team's 12:20.04 was good for sixth place and three points, while the sprint medley relay added a point to the team total with an eighth-place time of 4:01.89. The 4x200m relay team set a new school record at 1:43.72.
