NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Jeffery Taylor scored 16 points to lead Vanderbilt to an 83-62 victory over Central Arkansas on Wednesday night.
Vanderbilt (3-1) made its first six field goal attempts and never trailed. The Commodores led by as many as 25 points in the first half and took a 48-29 halftime lead.
Central Arkansas (2-2) opened the second half with an 18-6 run, including five straight points by Mike Pouncy, but could draw no closer than 12 points with 12:31 remaining.
Taylor made 7 of 10 field goal attempts, including a pair of first-half dunks, and matched his career high while scoring in double figures for his fourth straight game.
George Drake scored 14 points and Festis Ezeli added 11, both career highs.
Marcus Pillow made five 3-pointers for the Bears for a game-high 17 points. Mitch Rueter added 16 and Pouncy and Chris Brown each had 12.
Alabama 58, St. Joseph's 48
LAHAINA, Hawaii (AP) -- Alonzo Gee had 19 points and eight rebounds to lead Alabama to a 58-48 victory over Saint Joseph's on Wednesday in the fifth-place game of the EA Sports Maui Invitational.
The Crimson Tide (3-2) finished with a 37-23 rebound advantage and outscored the Hawks 38-18 in the paint.
Tasheed Carr matched his career high with 23 points for the Hawks (2-3), who opened the tournament with a 68-50 loss to No. 6 Texas.
Alabama, which lost 92-69 to Oregon in the first round, closed the first half on a 10-0 run and scored the first basket of the second half for a 31-18 lead, its biggest of the game.
Saint Joseph's, which opened the game missing nine of its first 12 shots, got as close as 43-39 on a 3 by Carr with 8:24 to go, but Gee scored on a tip-in and Yamene Coleman followed with a basket down low.
Both schools were making their first appearance in the tournament.
Ole Miss 78, Central Florida 46
OXFORD, Miss. (AP) -- David Huertas scored 24 points to lead Mississippi in a 78-46 rout of Central Florida on Wednesday night.
The Rebels (4-1) led 27-26 at halftime, then went on a 34-9 run to start the second half.
UCF (2-2) had started the game with a 16-4 spurt, then fell victim to the same poor shooting that plagued Ole Miss in the first half.
While the Rebels made only of 8 of 29 shots in the first half (27.6 percent), UCF made 11 of 31 (35.5 percent).
In the second half, Ole Miss improved to 64.3 percent on 18-of-28 shooting while the Knights still struggled. UCF made only 8 of 31 shots for 25.8 percent to finish the game shooting 30.6 percent.
Chris Warren added 10 points for the Rebels, while DeAundre Cranston chipped in eight points and 12 rebounds.
Jermaine Taylor was UCF's only scorer in double figures with 16 points.
Arkansas 79, South Alabama 77
MOBILE, Ala. (AP) -- Stefan Welsh hit a 3-pointer with 2.9 seconds left to give Arkansas a 79-77 win over South Alabama on Wednesday night.
Trailing the Jaguars by four points with less than four minutes to play, the Razorbacks (3-1) used 3-point baskets by Welsh and Rotnei Clarke in the final 47 seconds to give Arkansas coach John Pelphrey the win over his former team in the Coors Classic.
Courtney Fortson scored a game-high 25 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the floor, including 4 of 4 from 3-point range. Welsh added 24 points for the Razorbacks.
South Alabama (2-3) was led by Domonic Tilford with 23 points, including six 3-pointers. Brandon Davis added 18 points.
Arkansas trailed the Jaguars 45-44 at halftime, then South Alabama increased the lead to 10. But the Razorbacks closed the gap to 66-65 at the 8:36 mark, holding the Jaguars to just two points in 4 minutes.
