Team-By-Team Notes
Alabama Crimson Tide Alabama dropped a hard-fought contest at Middle Tennessee State on Sunday with a final score of 77-67. With the loss, the Crimson Tide slipped to 6-3 on the season. Sophomore Tierney Jenkins was Alabama's top point producer with 15 points, while classmate Daleisha Carn followed closely behind with 13. For the game, the Tide shot 42.6 percent from the field, while Middle Tennessee connected on 51.2 percent of its shots. Alabama's bench outscored the Blue Raiders 37-0. The big difference in the contest was at the free-throw line where Middle Tennessee made 29 of its 38 attempts. The Tide took 20 less shots from the charity stripe and finished the game 11-18. Next up, Alabama will host Florida A&M on Wednesday, Dec. 17 at Coleman Coliseum. Tipoff is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. (CST).
Arkansas Razorbacks Opening the season 8-2, the Razorbacks had most of the past week off for the 2008 fall final exams period. Freshman Ceira Ricketts and Lyndsay Harris lead the team in scoring through the first 10 games of the season. Ricketts had her first near-triple at Arkansas with 16 points, 8 assists and 7 rebounds against North Dakota last week prior to the finals break. As a high school player, Ricketts had multiple triples, four quads and came within a blocked shot of a quintuple double. Senior Whitney Jones tied her career high with 22 points and a career-tying five steals to lead Arkansas against UND. Jones also had 10 boards her her second double of the year. The Razorbacks return to the court for a pair of games before the holiday break, Thursday with Dartmouth and Sunday with Missouri.
Auburn Tigers The Tigers took a 12-day break during finals week, and return to action at 6:30 p.m. CT, Dec. 19 as AU travels to Washington, D.C., to take on George Washington.
Florida Gators Florida's only game this week is against its toughest opponent of the non-conference season to date, as the Gators host No. 16 Pittsburgh on Sunday. Florida, which is taking a nine-day break between games because of final exams, enters Sunday's game riding a 10-game winning streak, the third longest in program history and the longest since an 11-game run during the 2005-06 season. UF's 10-1 overall record is tied for the best through 11 games in program history, marking just the fifth time the Gators have won as many to start the year. The Gators also enter Sunday's game riding a 13-game home winning streak versus non-conference opponents. UF's win last week over Florida A&M capped the team's five-game slate against instate opponents, posting a 4-1 record versus Sunshine State foes. The 22-point victory against the Rattlers marked the first time in school history UF has won its first five games at home by a margin of 20 or more points.
Georgia Lady Bulldogs After playing seven games in 13 days, the Lady Bulldogs are in the midst of a 12-day break from competition during Final Exams on the UGA campus. On Saturday, the Lady Bulldogs assembled 55 bicycles to be given away to worthy children for Christmas. The majority of the bikes went to Operation Homefront, a non-profit agency which will distribute the bikes to children whose parents are deployed military personnel. Georgia is currently 7-3 on the season. Junior Ashley Houts joined Georgia's top-10 career leaders for steals with four thefts in Georgia's last game at Rutgers. Houts has 207 steals in two-plus seasons in Athens, equaling the No. 10 tally of Cynthia Collins from 1979-83. Andy Landers is currently four wins shy of his 800th career victory. Only three major college women's hoops coaches have posted 800 career wins -- Pat Summitt, Jody Conradt and C. Vivian Stringer. The Lady Bulldogs return to action on Saturday when they travel to Birmingham to face UAB. Georgia will be looking to avoid just its sixth three-game losing streak during Landers' 30 seasons in Athens. The Lady Bulldogs are 1-1 all-time against UAB, losing to the Blazers in the 1981 AIAW Regional Tournament and winning in the opening round of the 1999 Pre-season WNIT. Georgia completes its pre-Christmas slate by hosting Clemson at the Arena at Gwinnett Center on Monday. The Lady Bulldogs hold an 11-5 lead in their all-time series with Clemson.
Kentucky Wildcats Kentucky looks to get back on the winning track after dropping of its games last week. The Cats fell in a tough matchup to East Tennessee 59-50 on Friday in Lexington. Playing without senior point guard Carly Ormerod and junior forward Lydia Watkins due to injuries, the Wildcats struggled offensively, shooting 35.8 percent from the floor and just 10.0 percent from the three-point line. Senior Eleia Roddy led the Cats in scoring and rebounding with her sixth career and second double-double of the season (13 points, 11 rebounds). In the 45th "Battle of the Bluegrass" against Louisville, Kentucky put up a valiant effort but couldn't overcome a season-high 26 turnovers. Louisville scored 23 points off those miscues and went on to win 75-59. Four Wildcats scored in double-figures led by Watkins with 15 off the bench. Carly Morrow followed with a career-high 14 points while Roddy posted her second-straight double-double with 13 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. After final exams, UK returns to Memorial Coliseum Friday, Dec. 19 for the first of four consecutive home games.
LSU Lady Tigers The LSU women's basketball team returns from a 14-day hiatus for final exams as the Lady Tigers play three games in six days this week. LSU renews its rivalry with Louisiana Tech at 7 p.m. CST Monday in the Maravich Center before playing host to Southeastern Louisiana at 7 p.m. CST Thursday. The LSU-Louisiana Tech contest will be broadcast live on Cox Sports Television. The Lady Tigers travel to Centenary for a noon CST tip on Saturday in LSU's first road game of the season. LSU is playing its first game since dismantling Texas Southern, 61-30, on Dec. 1 in Baton Rouge. The Lady Tigers turned a close game at the half into a blowout with a 23-0 second-half run that was sparked by 14 points from freshman point guard Destini Hughes. Hughes averages 5.0 points and a team-best 2.0 assists per game. Preseason All-Southeastern Conference guard Allison Hightower leads LSU in scoring with 12.6 points per contest while ranking second on the squad in rebounds with 5.2 a game. Freshman forward LaSondra Barrett is second on the team in scoring with 8.6 per contest this season. LSU has used four different lineup combinations this seasons and consistently starts three true freshmen. Freshman forward Taylor Turnbow ranks second in the SEC and 32nd in the nation in blocks per game with 2.4. LSU's roster features seven true freshmen who have accounted for 155 (51.7 percent) of the Lady Tigers' 300 points this season.
Ole Miss Rebels The Ole Miss women's basketball team suffered a 46-42 loss at NC State Sunday afternoon in its only game of the week. Rebel senior center Shawn Goff picked up her second double-double of the season as she finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman Nikki Byrd pulled down a career-high 14 rebounds to go along with her four points. NC State is the fifth opponent this season Ole Miss held to 50 points or less. It was the first time, however, that Ole Miss held an opponent to 50 points or less and lost the game. The Rebels entered the contest 113-0 all-time in games in which they held the opponent to 50 points or less. The Rebels return to action Wednesday at 7 p.m. when Ole Miss welcomes UALR to Tad Smith Coliseum.
Mississippi State Lady Bulldogs Off to its second best start in school history, Mississippi State moved to 7-0 with a convincing 81-49 victory over Memphis this past Sunday. The Lady Bulldogs never trailed in the contest and led 42-19 at halftime. The win marked the fourth straight by MSU over Memphis. State was paced by junior guard Alexis Rack who poured in 19 on four three-point field goals. The point total was a season high for Rack. Rack also added five assists and three steals. Sophomore Mary Kathryn Govero added 14 points while junior Chanel Mokango had 12. Mississippi State will look for their eighth win in as many games on Tuesday night when they travel to Hattiesburg, Miss., to face Southern Mississippi. Following that game, Mississippi State will travel to Utah to face Utah Valley on Dec. 19 and the University of Utah on Dec. 20. State is just four wins shy of matching the school record in consecutive wins to open a season which is 11 set during the 1999-2000 season.
South Carolina Gamecocks South Carolina took last week off for exams but faces a busy stretch before the Christmas break. The Gamecocks host USC Upstate on Tuesday night before No. 4 Stanford visits Colonial Life Arena on Friday and Charlotte closes out the pre-holiday schedule on Sunday. Both the Stanford and Charlotte games will be shown live on SportSouth.
Tennessee Lady Volunteers This week, UT returns to the road for a meeting at a dangerous Old Dominion squad in Norfolk, Va., on Dec. 18. Following that contest, UT returns home to face #3/4-ranked Stanford on Dec. 21 in Knoxville before breaking for the Christmas holidays. Last week, Tennessee returned to action on Dec. 11 after taking a nine-day hiatus from games to concentrate on final exams. The Lady Vols returned to the hardwood hosting cross-state rival Middle Tennessee on Thurs., Dec. 11 at Thompson-Boling Arena and came away with a solid 81-52 win. The Lady Vols traveled to #6/5-ranked Texas following Fall Commencement ceremonies for graduating senior Alex Fuller and dropped a 73-59 decision on Dec. 14 in Austin.
Vanderbilt Commodores Vanderbilt went 2-1 during the week before fall semester examinations begin. The Commodores defeated Radford at home on Tuesday before traveling to California, where they would beat Fullerton and narrowly lose at Riverside. The Commodores are 8-2 after their first 10 games this year. Vanderbilt will take a 13-day break for finals before returning with three games in four days (Dec. 19, 21 and 22) against Tennessee State, UT Martin and Liberty.

Leader In Women's Basketball
The Southeastern Conference stands firmly as the nation's premier intercollegiate women's basketball conference. The league leads the nation with EIGHT national championships, TEN runner-up finishes, 34 Final Four appearances and 94 first-team All-America honors.
SEC Will Begin 25th Season Of Conference Play
This will be the 27th season of conference play for the SEC. Women's basketball first came under the auspices of the SEC in the 1982-83 season. Games played between SEC teams before that time are not counted in the all-time SEC standings, since there was no uniform number of conference games played prior to that time.
