MILLER,  BRAMLETT GUIDE TEAM USA TO WORLD CUP OF SOFTBALL TITLE

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State head coach Jay Miller and Chelsea Bramlett added yet another piece of hardware to their collection cases as the pair helped the United States Women’s National Softball Team to a successful defense of its World Cup of Softball last weekend in Oklahoma City.

Miller’s squad went 6-1 in the event, with the lone loss coming against Canada Sunday afternoon. Despite that setback, the U.S. advanced to Monday night’s championship game and defeated Japan 5-1 in a rematch of last month’s ISF World Championship gold medal game.

Bramlett played in five games, starting three times. The Cordova, Tenn., native and four-time NFCA First Team All-American hit .500 (3-for-6) with a sacrifice, four runs scored and four stolen bases.

In Thursday’s opener against Canada, a 9-0 win in six innings, Bramlett went 1-for-2 and added a stolen base. The next night she scored a run as the U.S. rolled to a 5-0 win against Japan.

On Saturday the Red, White and Blue held on for a 1-0 win against the U.S. Futures before meeting Japan in the second game of the twinbill. Against Japan, the SEC record-holder for season and career batting average collected a hit and scored twice while swiping a pair of bases.

After adding a sacrifice in Sunday’s setback to Canada, Bramlett went 1-for-3 with a run and a stolen base as the U.S. blanked the futures 3-0 prior to the championship game against Canada.
