Continuing its commitment to elementary and secondary education throughout the region, the Southeastern Conference is expanding its highly successful Education Initiative to include a Character Development Series on CD-Rom entitled STAR Sportsmanship™.
This unique, 40-minute interactive learning program is designed for 6-14 year old boys and girls. Scheduled for release in October 2004, the CD-Rom features customized animation utilizing sports themes branded with SEC teams. It also includes video messages from former SEC standouts Peyton and Eli Manning, Shaun Alexander, and Kara Lawson.
The STAR Sportsmanship CD-Rom will be distributed at SEC Championship events throughout the 2004-05 academic year and is also available upon request at www.SECsports.com or www.SECKids.com. In addition, Golden Flake, the Official Snack Food of the SEC, will include the STAR Sportsmanship CD in specially-marked 24-count Variety Packs throughout the fall.
The research-based, design strategy for teaching sportsmanship applies the proprietary "STAR" methodology and its four, principle-driven guidelines to relevant sports scenarios young students will often encounter.
STAR Sportsmanship effectively provides young people the ability to apply the appropriate ethical attitudes and decision-making abilities in sports and in real-world social environments. It teaches courtesy, diligence, humility, integrity, respect and teamwork.
