BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- SEC Champion Georgia had a league-high five representatives on the 2005 First-Team All-Southeastern Conference Coaches' Football Team, the league announced on Monday.
11 of the 12 SEC schools had a member of the first-team All-SEC squad. Following Georgia, LSU was next with four first-team picks with Alabama, Auburn and Vanderbilt each with three selections.
Georgia also had the most players on both the first and second units with nine. Florida had a league-high five players on the second unit followed by Georgia with four and Alabama, Auburn, LSU and Tennessee with three each.
There were five unanimous selections to this year's All-SEC squad, three on the offensive line - Marcus McNeill of Auburn, Georgia's Max Jean-Gilles and LSU's Andrew Whitworth. Defensively, Alabama's DeMeco Ryans and Georgia's Greg Blue were also unanimous first-team All-SEC choices.
Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own players, thus a unanimous selection earns 11 of 12 first-team votes.
Georgia tight end Leonard Pope, Vanderbilt linebacker Moses Osemwegie, McNeill and Jean-Gilles were repeat first-team selections from last season.
The All-SEC squad had 13 first-team seniors, 15 were underclassmen, including nine juniors, two sophomores and three freshmen. Both wide receivers on the first unit - South Carolina's Sidney Rice and Vanderbilt's Earl Bennett - are freshmen as is Arkansas running back Darren McFadden. On the second-team, 15 seniors were selected, nine juniors and two sophomores and one freshman. Arkansas return specialist Felix Jones was the only freshman on the second-team.
The SEC individual award winners will be released on Wednesday and the SEC All-Freshman Team will be announced on Thursday.
