SEC SAAC Food Drive Nets 20 Tons

The Southeastern Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee's first ever league-wide community service project, the "2007 SEC Together We CAN Drive," concluded on Sept. 30. With student-athletes and administrators from all 12 SEC member institutions participating, the project raised more than 40,000 pounds of food and financial contributions.

The SEC SAAC encouraged fans and supporters to donate at various sporting events, on campuses and in the community from Sept. 21-30. All proceeds from the "2007 SEC Together We CAN Drive" benefit food banks in the Southeastern Conference region.

"I am absolutely thrilled at the work our student-athletes put in for this project," said SEC SAAC staff liaison, Torie Johnson. "This initiative came directly from them, and it is truly gratifying to know they not only see the needs, but are willing to help meet them. We have a great group of student-leaders in the Southeastern Conference."

The SEC SAAC is comprised of two student-athletes from each institution. The SAAC was established to serve as a medium of communication through which student-athletes; conference administrators, institutional representatives and coaches discuss and take action on issues relating to rules governance, student-athlete welfare and community service.
