Mississippi State’s Jarvis Varnado was named SEC Player of the Week after he averaged 18.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 4.5 blocks in wins over Alabama and at South Carolina. Varnado led the Bulldogs with 17 points, 10 rebounds and eight blocks. His eighth and final block of the night broke the NCAA record of 535 set by former Louisiana-Monroe standout Wojciech Myrda. He registered his 17th double-double of the season with 19 points and 12 rebounds against the Gamecocks. Varnado ranks second nationally with 143 blocked shots on the season.

John Jenkins

Vanderbilt’s John Jenkinswas named SEC Freshman of the Week after averaging 13.5 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists in wins over Georgia and at Arkansas. Jenkins had 14 points and a pair of assists in Vanderbilt’s overtime win against Georgia. He then scored in double-figures for the 17th time this season with 13 points, three rebounds and a steal at Arkansas. On the week, he made five of his eight (62.5 percent) three-pointers attempts.
