BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Defending SEC and national champion Alabama Crimson Tide had a league-high six representatives on the first-team of the 2010 All-Southeastern Conference Coaches’ Football Team, while Florida had a league-high 10 total selections, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Georgia had four players on the first team, which was second, while Florida had three players. Georgia and Auburn were tied for third with six total selections.
Ten of the 12 SEC schools had a member on the first-team All-SEC squad. Each SEC school had at least one student-athlete on either the first or second-team.
South Carolina had a total of five players make both teams, while Arkansas and LSU had four each, Kentucky and Mississippi State had three each, Tennessee and Vanderbilt had two each and Ole Miss had one selection.
There are five first-team pre-season selections that were on last year’s first-team coaches All-SEC post-season team. Those include: C Mike Pouncey (Florida), WR A.J. Green (Georgia), RB Mark Ingram (Alabama), DB Mark Barron (Alabama) and P Drew Butler (Georgia).
The All-SEC first-team squad had 10 seniors and 16 underclassmen, including 12 juniors and four sophomores. The second-team had 17 seniors, 10 juniors and two sophomores.
This marks the seventh straight year of the SEC Coaches Pre-Season All-SEC Team. The team is announced each year in advance of the SEC Football Media Days. This year, the event will be held Wednesday through Friday at the Wynfrey Hotel in Hoover, Ala.
