Florida Picked to Win 2014 SEC Volleyball Title

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The University of Florida is the preseason favorite to win the 2014 Southeastern Conference volleyball title, according to the SEC Preseason Coaches' Poll.

Florida, who finished 28-4 overall and 16-2 in the SEC during the 2013 season, received 12 of the 13 first-place votes for the second consecutive year in the preseason poll. The University of Missouri garnered a first-place vote after capturing last season's title with an 18-0 mark in the SEC and an overall record of 35-1.

The University of Kentucky finished second in the preseason poll with 129 points, while Missouri took third place with 114 points. Louisiana State University followed in fourth place with 105 points, while the University of Alabama took fifth with 102 points. Texas A&M University received 89 points to finish sixth, followed by the University of Arkansas (87 points) in seventh, the University of Georgia (65) in eighth, Auburn University (54) in ninth and the University of Mississippi (50) in 10th place. The University of Tennessee received 33 points, the University of South Carolina 29 points and Mississippi State University 13 points to round out the poll.

Nine student-athletes were selected to the 2014 Preseason Volleyball All-SEC Team. The squad includes: Krystal Rivers from Alabama; Alex Holston, Živa Recek and Taylor Unroe from Florida; Morgan Bergren from Kentucky; Brianna Holman from LSU; Carly Kan and Whitney Little from Missouri; and Shelby Sullivan from Texas A&M.

The 2014 SEC volleyball season will begin on Friday, August 29, and conference play is set to start on Wednesday, September 24.
