NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Johnny McCrary tied a school record with five touchdowns as Vanderbilt rolled to a 42-28 victory over Old Dominion on Saturday night at Vanderbilt Stadium.
The redshirt freshman threw touchdowns to five different receivers to tie the single-game record shared by Jay Cutler (2005) and Bill Wade (1950). McCrary, making his second career start, set career highs with 281 yards on 20-of-29 passing. Eight receivers caught a pass and Nathan Marcus, Steven Scheu, Latevius Rayford, Davis Dudchock and C.J. Duncan.
Ralph Webb also scored a touchdown and set the Vanderbilt freshman single-game rushing record with 166 yards on 31 carries. Rodney Williams previously held the high mark for VU freshman with 156 yards against Western Michigan on Oct. 10, 1998.
The Commodores (3-6) won consecutive home games for the first time this season. They stay at home next week to host Florida at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday on the SEC Network.
