Alabama's Ricky Tarrant, a 6-foot-2, 190-pound junior guard from Pleasant Grove, Ala., was named SEC Player of the Week after leading the Crimson Tide to a win over UCLA. The junior guard struck for an Alabama career-high 24 points, including 18 points in the first half alone, en route to a 56-50 victory over the Bruins on Sunday night. Tarrant was dominant over the opening 20 minutes, hitting 6-of-10 shots and scoring 18 of the Tide's 29 first half points. He finished the contest hitting 8-of-10 free throws, including sinking the eventual game-winning free throw that gave Alabama a 51-50 lead with 49 seconds remaining.
Kentucky's Tyler Ulis, a 5-foot-9, 155-pound guard from Lima, Ohio, was named SEC Freshman of the Week after leading the Wildcats to a 58-50 win at fourth-ranked Louisville. Ulis scored a career-high 14 points, including a pair of second half 3-pointers to lead the Wildcats in scoring in the victory to remain a perfect 13-0 on the year. Ulis' previous career high was 12 points against Buffalo in the second game of the season. He also dished out two assists with zero turnovers, while playing in a career-high 26 minutes of action in his first career road game. The five made field goals also marked a career best.
