Gators tabbed to win SEC Volleyball title

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of Florida, the defending SEC champion, is the preseason favorite to win the 2015 Southeastern Conference volleyball title, according to the SEC Preseason Coaches' Poll.

Florida, who finished 28-4 overall and a perfect 18-0 in the SEC last season, received 12 of the 13 first-place votes for the third consecutive year in the preseason poll. The University of Alabama garnered a first-place vote after finishing with an overall record of 26-8 and owning a 13-5 mark in league play during the 2014 season.

Alabama finished second in the preseason poll with 127 points, while the University of Kentucky took third place with 120 points. Texas A&M University followed in fourth place with 113 points, while the University of Arkansas took fifth with 88 points. Louisiana State University received 85 points to finish sixth, followed by the University of Missouri (84 points) in seventh, the University of Mississippi (76) in eighth, Auburn University (59) in ninth and the University of Georgia (47) in 10th place. The University of South Carolina received 30 points, Mississippi State University 21 points and the University of Tennessee 20 points to round out the poll.

Nine student-athletes were selected to the 2015 Preseason Volleyball All-SEC Team. The squad includes: Krystal Rivers from Alabama; Chanell Clark-Bibbs from Arkansas; Rhamat Alhassan, Mackenzie Dagostino and Alex Holston from Florida; Morgan Bergren from Kentucky; Nakeyta Clair from Ole Miss; Carly Kan from Missouri; and Shelby Sullivan from Texas A&M.

The 2015 SEC volleyball season will begin on Friday, August 28, and conference play is set to start on Wednesday, September 23.
