Tigers roll past the Crimson Tide 10-1

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Blake Logan and Anfernee Grier both homered as Auburn baseball set a MAX Capital City Classic scoring record in a 10-1 win over No. 21 Alabama on Tuesday at Riverwalk Stadium.

"You can't deny that, that's what you sign up for," Auburn head coach Butch Thompson said. "That's what I dreamed of, that I get to play in that rivalry. That's neat. I'm also so focused on our ball club that with both bands and Aubie and everything going on and a great venue with a full crowd, I thought our offensive players stayed focused tonight."

Auburn (12-13) has won seven of eight all-time meetings with Alabama in the MAX Capital City Classic.

Auburn took a 4-0 lead in the first with the big hit a 3-run homer by Logan, who was named the game's MVP. The home run was the second of his career and first since 2014. He finished 2-for-5 with a home run, double and three RBI.

Jordan Ebert added a RBI single in the frame. He had three this on the night.

After allowing a run in the second inning, Andrew Mitchell settled in and complete six innings while scattering six hits. He struck out five with one run allowed.

After Alabama (15-9) got on the board in the second, the Tigers answered with a run on a Joshua Palacios ground out in the bottom half. Cody Nulph and Kyler Deese had RBI in the third to make it 7-1.

Grier hit his SEC-best seventh homer of the season in the fourth as the Tigers added single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Damon Haecker and Daniel Robert also had RBI in that stretch.

Grier had three hits to increase his SEC-leading batting average to .434. He has reached base in all 25 games this season. Haecker and Niko Buentello both had two hits.

Auburn finished with 15 hits on the night to reach nine or more hits for the 12-straight game.

Alabama's Jon Keller (1-1) took the loss with six earned in two innings.

Cobie Vance had two hits to lead the Crimson Tide.

Gordon Cardenas pitched the final three innings for Auburn to earn his second save.

The Tigers are in action next on Friday when they open a series with No. 15 LSU at Plainsman Park.
