SEC Player of the Week - Ole Miss guard Breein Tyree, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound junior from Somerset, N.J., scored a career-high 31 points to lead the Rebels to their eighth straight victory, an 81-71 win over Vanderbilt to begin SEC play. Tyree's output was the most points scored by an SEC player on opening weekend, as well as the most scored by a Rebel and a Vanderbilt opponent this season. Making a career-high 11 shots, Tyree went 11 of 16 from the floor. He got off to a hot start, draining his first six shots from the field and scoring 17 of his team's 35 first half points. He was a perfect 6 of 6 from the line, making four free throws during the final six minutes to help keep Ole Miss ahead late in the game.

SEC Freshman of the Week - Vanderbilt forward/center Simisola Shittu, a 6-foot-10, 240-pound freshman from Burlington, Ontario, averaged 19 points, nine rebounds and 3.5 assists against UNC Asheville and Ole Miss. He converted 11 of his 16 (68.8 percent) field goals for the week. In his inaugural SEC matchup with Ole Miss, Shittu, the Commodores' leading scorer and rebounder, scored a career-high 21 points, grabbed nine rebounds and dished out three assists against the Rebels. He started the week with a 17 point, nine rebound and four assist effort against UNCA.
