BATON ROUGE - No. 9 LSU softball team claimed a 8-0 victory over the Kent St. Golden Flashes Tuesday night in Tiger Park. The Tigers improve to 14-3 on the year and 11-1 at home.
After two scoreless innings for both teams, the Tigers got on the board first with an Amanda Sanchez single through the left side, scoring both Taryn Antoine and Aliyah Andrews and making it her 23rd RBI on the year. After grounding out to third at her first at-bat, Shelbi Sunseri hit her ninth home run on the season in the bottom of the third inning, giving LSU a 4-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Amber Serrett walked and advanced to third on a single up the middle from Elyse Thornhill. Andrews reached first base on a fielding error and Serrett scored, upping the Tigers' lead to 5-0.
Amanda Sanchez reached first on a hit by pitch in the bottom of the fifth inning, followed by a double to right field from Sunseri. Amanda Doyle stepped up to the plate and hit a three run homer to left field, making it her third home run on the year. The Tigers claimed the victory in walk-off fashion, 8-0.
Maribeth Gorsuch secured the game in the circle, claiming her third victory on the season and improving to 3-0. She finished with two strikeouts and allowed only two hits in the five innings.
The Tigers will be at home this weekend for the Purple and Gold Challenge, playing host to USC Upstate, Indiana, Stephen F. Austin and Illinois State. LSU will take on USC Upstate Friday at 5 p.m., followed by Indiana at 7:30 p.m.
