HOOVER, Ala. -- No. 2 seed South Carolina won a pair of matches Saturday to advance to the final round of the SEC Women's Golf Championship at Greystone's Legacy Course.
The semifinal between Georgia and Ole Miss was suspended due to darkness. The Rebels have won a pair matches, Georgia has won one match and leads in another, and one match is tied. The two teams will conclude their match Sunday at 7 a.m. CT, with the championship match to be played following the semifinal. The match play final will be televised live on the SEC Network.
The tournament began on Tuesday with the first of three days of stroke play. Eight teams advanced to the match play portion of the championship, which began Saturday.
Three of the top four seeds dropped their quarterfinal matches to begin the day Saturday. Ole Miss defeated No. 1 seed Florida 3-2-0, while South Carolina defeated No. 7 Mississippi State 4-0-1. No. 6 Auburn beat third-seeded Arkansas 3-1-1, and No. 5 Georgia beat fourth-seeded Vanderbilt 3-2-0.
South Carolina then beat Auburn 3-1-1 in the semifinals to reach the match play final for the second consecutive year. South Carolina is seeking its second SEC title and first since 2002, while Georgia would be playing for its 12th SEC crown and Ole Miss its first.
This marks the seventh consecutive year for the Southeastern Conference Championship to be contested at the Greystone Golf and Country Club just outside of Birmingham.
