AUSTIN, Texas --The Mississippi State men's track and field team is in first place following the first day of competition at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.
The Bulldogs tallied 24 points on Wednesday, while BYU is second with 21, LSU is third with 18 points and Georgia is fourth with 12. Alabama and Florida are tied for ninth with eight points apiece.
Mississippi State swept the javelin as Anderson Peters claimed the title with a throw of 86.62m. One other SEC student-athlete claimed a national championship Wednesday as LSU's JuVaughn Harrison won the men's long jump (8.20m).
The women's competition is scheduled to begin on Thursday.
