AUSTIN, Texas (June 7, 2019) -- The Arkansas women's track and field team stands in first following the opening day of competition Thursday at the NCAA Championships.
The Razorbacks tallied 15 points behind a first-place finish by Victoria Hoggard in the pole vault (4.56m/14-11.5). Arizona State and Washington are tied for second with 12 points, followed by Ohio State (11) and California (10). Florida's Yanis David won the NCAA title in the women's long jump (6.84m/22-5.25).
Mississippi State leads the men's competition with 24 points, followed by Georgia (22), BYU (21), LSU (18) and Kansas (11). Georgia's Johannes Erm won the men's decathlon on Thursday with 8352 points.
The men's competition concludes Friday, while the women's events wrap up on Saturday.
