Preseason baseball poll ranks nine SEC teams in Top 25

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Jan. 23, 2020)-----Nine Southeastern Conference baseball teams, including three in the top five and six in the top 10, are ranked in the USA Today Preseason Coaches Poll released Thursday. The SEC leads all conferences with nine teams in the preseason top 25.

Defending NCAA champion Vanderbilt is ranked No. 1, while Georgia and Arkansas are Nos. 4 and 5, respectively. Mississippi State is ranked sixth, Auburn is No. 9 and Florida is No. 10. LSU is No. 12, while Texas A&M is No. 21 and Ole Miss is No. 23.

SEC teams comprised half of the College World Series field a year ago (Arkansas, Auburn, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt). The SEC has had a team in the College World Series final in 11 of the last 12 years with six national titles during that span. The SEC led all conferences with 10 NCAA Tournament selections a year ago.

Opening day for all 14 SEC teams is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 14.
