ATHENS, Ga. - The 17th-ranked Georgia softball team recorded its third-straight five-inning victory Saturday evening with an 8-0 victory over UNCW at Jack Turner Stadium.

The day began with a five-plus hour snow delay in the first game of the day between Howard and Kent State. The Georgia-UNCW was the final game of the day. Georgia's game against Kent State was canceled due to the snow.

Junior Lauren Mathis (2-0) worked the complete game in the circle for the Bulldogs. She tied a career-best 10 strikeouts, allowing only two hits and surrendering a single walk.

At the plate, Georgia's eight runs came on seven hits. Sophomore Lacey Fincher and redshirt-freshman Jaiden Fields each tallied two hits. Fields' pinch-hit triple in the first drove in three runs.

The Bulldogs (3-0) plated four runs in the bottom of the first inning. With two down in the frame, Fincher dropped a single into center followed by freshman Sara Mosley getting hit by a pitch. Fellow rookie Sydney Kuma beat out an infield single to short to load the bases. Senior Jordan Doggett drove in the first run of the evening by drawing a bases-loaded walk, 1-0 Bulldogs. In another first-inning, pinch-hit role, Fields plugged the right-center gap to clear the bases and give Georgia a 4-0 lead on the Seahawks (1-2).

With senior Ciara Bryan on third and two out in the bottom of the fourth, Fincher recorded her second hit, this time a single into left, widening the lead to 5-0.

With Kuma on first, Doggett singled to left, plating Kuma and adding to the six-run lead. On the play, the left fielder made two errors, allowing Doggett to score and bring the lead to 7-0. With two on, Bryan doubled to center, plating junior Tyler Armistead and enacting the run rule in five innings, 8-0.

Sunday's slate of games will remain the same. Kent State and Howard will face off at 10 a.m. The Bulldogs will then play UNCW at 12:30 then Howard at 3 p.m.

Head Coach Lu Harris-Champer

On the grounds crew...

"What a crazy day. You've got to say the star of the day is the grounds crew. It's pretty amazing how they got the field playable after all that snow and you really can't believe, looking at the field, that we did have all that much [snow]. They did an amazing job. They worked really hard and I'm really thankful for having such a great crew to help us get the games in today."

On Lauren Mathis' performance...

"Lauren had a great day in the circle. She was able to work some different pitches and get some things in. She did a good job with that."

On Jaiden Fields' clutch hitting through three games...

"Jaiden Fields is clutch, just clutch. She's come up pinch hitting in the first inning two times now and has really done an outstanding job."
