BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Feb. 24, 2020)-----Jake Gibbons of the Texas A&M men's swimming and diving team and Taylor Morgan of the Alabama soccer team have been named Chair and Vice Chair, respectively, of the Southeastern Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Gibbons will continue in his role as Chair for the second consecutive year, while Morgan was selected by a vote of her peers at a meeting of the committee held recently at the SEC offices in Birmingham. The pair will be involved in various meetings throughout the year with the SEC's Athletics Directors, Senior Woman Administrators and Faculty Athletics Representatives.
Gibbons is a political science major and is a member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll. A senior from Jacksonville, Fla., Gibbons has been one of the Aggies' top entries in the distance freestyle races. He broke the Aggies' school record in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 2018 and he currently ranks in Texas A&M's all-time top 10 list in the 500 freestyle, 1,000 freestyle and 1,650 freestyle.
Morgan is a news media major and was recently named to the 2019 SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll. It marked the third consecutive year she has been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll. A junior from Westfield, N.J., Morgan started in 17 matches as a midfielder for the Crimson Tide last season.
The purpose of the SEC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is to provide student-athletes with additional opportunities to engage with campus leaders and conference office staff. The committee serves as a conduit of communication to the conference office on issues related to student-athlete experience and student-athlete wellness.
