ATHENS, Ga. -- Georgia Southern snapped third-ranked Georgia's four-game winning streak by posting a 6-3 victory Tuesday at Foley Field in front of a crowd of 2,195.

Tyler Owens pitched into the seventh inning for Eagles (6-5), limiting the Bulldogs to just one run on three hits for his first win of the year.

Georgia freshman Garrett Brown (1-1) gave up three runs on six hits over four innings. Will Childers, Brandon Smith, Cain Tatum, and Darryn Pasqua all came in to pitch in relief, with Pasqua tossing two scoreless innings.

The Bulldogs (11-2) had a good opportunity to score in the first inning. Ben Anderson led off with a double into right-centerfield and Tucker Bradley crushed an offering to centerfield but Eagles outfielder Parker Bierderer made a leaping catch at the wall. Anderson was stranded at second as the Bulldogs failed to score until the seventh inning.

Georgia Southern opened up the scoring in the fourth inning, when Christian Avant doubled to left-field, scoring Austin Thompson from first. After another double and a Bulldog error, the Eagles brought their lead to 3-0.

GSU picked up a run in the sixth off of a sacrifice fly and two runs on a single from Avant in the seventh inning, to extend its lead to 6-0.

The Bulldogs were able to get a run back in the bottom of the seventh inning, with Cole Tate delivered a sacrifice fly, scoring Garrett Blaylock from third. The inning was set up by pinch-hitter Connor Tate, who singled to right, moving Blaylock to third. Cole Tate recorded his second RBI of the night with a single in the ninth inning, scoring Kaden Fowler. Later in the inning, Tate scored off of an RBI single from Chaney Rogers for the final.

Ike Cousins Head Baseball Coach Scott Stricklin

On the loss... "They outplayed us. Georgia Southern was the better team tonight. (Tyler) Owens gave them a really good start. They made some spectacular defensive plays in the field. In the first inning the momentum switched. Their centerfielder, (Parker) Bierderer, robs a two run homerun from Tucker Bradley, and we are thinking it is 2-0 but all of a sudden it is 0-0 and they have the momentum. That was a big play. Offensively they were good throughout their lineup. They competed really well."
