South Carolina women's tennis senior Mia Horvit was named UTR/ITA National Player of the Week, as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Horvit posted an unblemished record for the Gamecocks last week, helping her team pick up wins against then-No. 36 Texas A&M and then-No. 25 LSU. All three of her victories came against ranked opponents with two of the wins being upsets.
Against the Aggies, Horvit helped the Gamecocks rally from a loss in doubles with a straight-set victory over No. 99 Tatiana Makarova at No. 1 singles to give South Carolina a 3-2 advantage in the match after the team fell behind 2-0. Two days later, she dominated in both singles and doubles, first helping Carolina take the doubles from LSU with a 6-2 victory with partner Megan Davies against No. 26 Nina Geissler and Eden Richardson. It was the combo's highest ranked victory together this season. She finished off the day with a 6-4, 6-1 upset of No. 36 Taylor Bridges on court one to give the Gamecocks their third point.
Horvit currently holds a national singles ranking of 39th and is 77th in doubles with Davies. She leads the team in ranked singles wins this season with 10 and holds an overall record of 18-10. For her career, Horvit is a three-time All-SEC selection, was named a singles All-American in 2017 and earned All-America honors in doubles last season.
